Marco Rubio: Being Gay Is Not a Choice
Newsmax ^ | Sunday, 19 Apr 2015

Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio says he does not believe sexual orientation is a choice for the "enormous majority of people."

The Florida senator's comments came Sunday on CBS's Face the Nation, where he said that it should be up to states rather than the Supreme Court to define marriage and that he considers marriage to be between a man and a woman.

"I also don't believe that your sexual preferences are a choice for the vast and enormous majority of people. In fact, the bottom line is, I believe that sexual preference is something people are born with," Rubio said.

He and other Republican presidential hopefuls have faced questions in recent days about their positions on same-sex marriage as the nation's top court prepares for what is expected to be a broad ruling on the constitutionality of the issue in June.

Americans support the right of same-sex couples to wed, 55 percent to 42 percent, according to a Gallup poll in May 2014, reflecting sweeping movement in public opinion over nearly two decades. Republican support has also grown, but stands at just 30 percent, according to the poll.

In an interview with Fusion published Wednesday, Rubio said he would attend a same-sex wedding.

“If it’s somebody in my life that I care for, of course I would,” he said. “I’m not going to hurt them simply because I disagree with a choice they’ve made or because I disagree with a decision they’ve made, or whatever it may be."

Texas Senator Ted Cruz said he has never had to make such a decision, dodging the question. Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who has not announced a campaign yet, said he would not attend such a wedding.

Ohio Governor John Kasich, another possible candidate, said he and his wife had been invited to a same-sex wedding and plan to attend, CNN reported Saturday.

Making a choice is your responsibility

A genetic trait removes responsibility

Leap of logic, voila

"Marco Rubio is getting dangerous."

Since the states have never delegated to the feds, expressly via the Constitution, the specific power to dictate policy for the vote-winning gay issues that he is addressing, misguided Rubio is a good example why the 17th Amendment should never have been ratified.

The 17th Amendment needs to disappear.

Absolutely. The whole nature of our republic was changed by that ruling.

The LARGEST geographic vote region was originally designed to be a congressional district.

Presidents were chosen by the electors (whose numbers matched congressional districts)

Senators were chosen by state legislators who had much smaller districts.

So, SMALL groups of people put forward the best qualified that they knew at a LOCAL level. In truth, all politics used to be LOCAL.

Now, the big national and international machines have taken it over.

As an aside, why is it always Republican politicians who get grilled on these kind of “gotcha” questions? How come the Democrats always get a free ride and never seem to have uncomfortable questions posed to them? You can’t tell me that every Democrat out there supports and encourages their children to partake in homosexual acts. Or abortions. Or drug use. Etc., etc.

Little by little these clowns are putting themselves out of the race with their mouths. Of course it is a choice. Otherwise, how do some people put homosexuality aside for being normal as they age.

I guess Rubio has calculated he will pick up more Rate votes than he will lose from Christians. We will see if his math is correct.

Speak for yourself, Reverend.

Bottom line (no pun intended )

No other fetish group identifies themselves as their choice of sexual PREFERENCE and then American. You have never heard of anyone claiming to be a “Water Sport American”, or a “S&M American”, or any other of the multitudes of sexual preferences. Are such “preferences” innate or genetic? No. Are they
any different than homosexual preferences? No.

if it’s not a choice, then it’s deviant behavior that needs to be excised from society

Where's ISIS when you need them, eh?

” I know.”

No. You think you know but in reality, you have drawn your theory based on your emotional reaction to a conclusion.
If you find a person hanging from a noose, your theory is they were born hanging from a noose.

And what is the “conservative” or “Christian” position on this? And what difference is it supposed to make?

The very fact that Rubio is answering this question proves that he doesn’t get it. It’s like answering the questions about “exceptions” on abortion, or about how old the earth is.

If he hasn’t figured out how to turn the question back on the questioner, he isn’t prepared for the culture war.

If he believes that then voting for Marco isn’t a choice either.

Exactly, and I suggest Marco not give up his Senate seat - he isn’t going anywhere near the WH.

More and more Señor Rubio is campaigning for Jeb's constituency or maybe for the nr. 2 spot on Jeb's ticket. He is shedding conservative voters daily. I am happy to see him stepping out of the Conservative circle. I hope all the primary voters notice that. We nee the conservative group to be cut down to no more than two before the first primary and to one by the second round if we are to beat Bush and the Progre$$ive money.

My thoughts too.

Why give up a good safe seat only for the Dems to try and win it. Now he will be out of a job while risking the seat for the left who are looking to gain more seats from us
