This is an estimate of the money that police departments spend to respond to and investigate gun-related crimes. It includes police salaries, benefits, and equipment, as well as overhead costs to the police department. Miller based this calculation on the amount of time police spent on initial response and follow-up (based on this sample survey) and the amount of money police departments spend on average per officer (including fringe benefits, equipment, supervision, etc.) using data from the 2006 Census of Governments

When we return to a civilized, God-fearing nation gun violence will return to where it was before America went berserk. When life becomes about being responsible rather than cool.

I see in the charts “proof” that mikey bloomberg is correct and minorities need to have all firearms confiscated. No time to waste.

So, would you agree that the following should be in somebody’s campaign:

What do you value more? Freedom or free stuff.

Not a lot of responsible folks being advertised. But we know that there are a lot of them despite the current state of the union. Fly over country?

Compared to welfare benefits, Medicaid and food stamps? Probably much less.

Will not go to a mother jones link, but from the excerpt:

“the amount of money police departments spend on average per officer (including fringe benefits, equipment, supervision, etc.)”

If memory serves me correctly, does not England have total gun control and still has a lot of LEO’s?

critical flaw in the methodology - they include salary/benefits/equipment as part of the cost. those costs are only relevant if that officer was hired solely for gun crimes. otherwise that cop, and the expenses of his position would still exist, he would be doing other things, on patrol, traffic duties, etc.

Maybe Mother Jones and other liberal mobs will now admit that any serious efforts at “gun control” must start with the government.

"... Lost household productivity is estimated using a 2009 study based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' American Time Use Survey. In both estimates, Miller assumes that victims and perpetrators make the same amount of money and are as productive as the typical American in their gender and age group."

Heh. Oh, brilliant.

Ladies and Gentlemen, your Labor Department at work.

The cost? Fewer Democrat voting units in Chicago, that’s what. That is why their panties are in a wad.

Utterly fails with its assumed premises that are false.

First, It assumes that ‘gun violence’ is severable separate and inherently different from other criminal violence. Completely false. Guns are just one of many items that can be used for criminal violence.

Second, It assumes that there is no benefit to guns, which likley is greater than its costs.

Third, It assumes that in some magical way, the potential of removing guns from society is possible.

Fourth, It assumes that the attempt to remove guns from society will not have any costs.

Mother Jones is a gang of hardcore lefties who know that an armed citizenry will resist government’s attempts to disarm it in order to impose socialism.

Does the article even address the 2nd Amendment as a bulwark against tyranny?

How much does it cost society in general in time, effort, and money to do the research necessary to prove beyond a shadow of doubt the out and out lies and misinformation from Liberal publications and the Liberal News Media. Let’s see that study. My guess is it pales in comparison.
