South Carolina: Walter Scott’s Family Asks Al Sharpton to Keep His ‘Circus’ Away from the Funeral

No more Fergusons, please.

Walter Scott’s family have asked Al Sharpton not to attend the funeral, it is claimed.

The New York-based Reverend became a prominent voice in the wake of Michael Brown’s shooting at the hands of a white police officer in Ferguson last August.

But as the nation’s attention turns to South Carolina and footage showing Officer Michael Slager shooting dead father-of-four Walter Scott, his parents and brothers have made plain that they do not want the same treatment.

According to the New York Daily News, the family told Rev Sharpton to ‘keep away’ from the relatives-only memorial service.

A source close to the Scotts told the paper: ‘We don’t want another Ferguson type of circus here.’

Fingers crossed that this is true. Sharpton does nothing but compound misery when he shows up to “help” with cameras in tow. The man is a menace to law-abiding citizens and the fact that anyone respects him is all the indication you need as to the depths of progressive depravity.

Let us also hope that Jesse Jackson doesn’t see an opportunity here.

Sure, that is why as everything was going normal for days, when the police saw the video, they instantly filed murder charges.

The police think it was murder.

I think now, wow, they could have shot him in the back for running away. Weird.

If you read their posts, there are some here advocating the police do exactly that.

The police think it was murder.

That's why they arrested him. That's their job. Now the DA will do theirs. I have no doubt that the system will work.

Which is not to say that everyone will necessarily like the way it works.

Al will wind up making them an offer they can’t refuse.

I would speculate that the prosecuting attorney also viewed the video. Hence the murder charge as this is the most serious charge they believe they can prove.

... and it is the best way to preserve civil order in their county. Stand by for a long hot summer. Hope the POTUS and the DOJ can keep the hell out of it.

The murder charge was filed because they saw a murder on that video.

I agree that I am all for letting the accused have his day in court. Of course, it appears he lied (appears) regarding the dead man’s actions.

And shooting a guy in the back is pretty bad form. Mr. Scott was 50 years old and the cop looked like a pretty fit 33 years. The use of the gun should have been a last resort.

Anyway, I agree with you regarding the caveats. Even with them, though, I’m still prone to support the prosecutors. At least until I hear the defense.

Of course, this is the problem: trying the case in the media. Very very dangerous. A man—any man, black or white, should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

And if I were on the jury, that is exactly how I would approach the case.

The murder charge was filed
because they saw a murder on that video.

Anyone seeing that video would do the same. This is not a "whodunit." This is a "we think it's a murder, let's arrest him on that charge and see if the courts agree." In the meantime, he is presumed innocent. At this point, as honest jurors, we would be instructed to presume the same.

This is a discussion forum, we don’t post threads about OJ Simpson and Bill Clinton raping, and video murders, just so we can post 200 times that we are not a court of law, and that we cannot have opinions on guilt and innocence.

‘We don’t want another Ferguson type of circus here.’

If this is true, hats off to the family.

But, what happened to their brother definitely is not like Ferguson at all.

"FALSE.. .By running, Scott committed a crime. "

True: Scott committed a crime by resisting and running.
True: Slager also committed a crime, by dropping that taser alongside Scott's body. Honest police officers don't drop things beside a body after a shooting.

You are absolutely correct. A police officer who rampers with evidence ar a crime scene like this should be immediately suspended without pay, charged, and arrested. If found guilty, he should receive the maximum sentence.

I only object to racially charged hysteria. Inevitably, this incident will be used to political advantage. However, so far Obama and Holder have elected to STFU and allow Al to carry their water until they can see which way the chips will fall in the larger electorate.

Have you seen the report that the cop is the one who was shot by the Taser? Conservative Treehouse I think it is that has photos where you can see the Taser wires attached to the cop’s body. The circus is just getting started.
