Walter Scott’s family have asked Al Sharpton not to attend the funeral, it is claimed.
The New York-based Reverend became a prominent voice in the wake of Michael Brown’s shooting at the hands of a white police officer in Ferguson last August.
But as the nation’s attention turns to South Carolina and footage showing Officer Michael Slager shooting dead father-of-four Walter Scott, his parents and brothers have made plain that they do not want the same treatment.
According to the New York Daily News, the family told Rev Sharpton to ‘keep away’ from the relatives-only memorial service.
A source close to the Scotts told the paper: ‘We dont want another Ferguson type of circus here.’
Fingers crossed that this is true. Sharpton does nothing but compound misery when he shows up to “help” with cameras in tow. The man is a menace to law-abiding citizens and the fact that anyone respects him is all the indication you need as to the depths of progressive depravity.
Let us also hope that Jesse Jackson doesn’t see an opportunity here.
Hmmm, when it is a real situation of a bad cop the family doesn’t want the race baiters.
Curious, right?
Maybe Al and his racebaiting, lowlife maggots can raise this month’s wages doing a car wash or bake sale or something.
The family of the deceased asks the Gibsmedat Road Show not to bring their tents to town.
Remains to be seen if Sharpton will honor the request: the chances of a second Ferguson are too good to let slide...

So far, Mr. Scott's family appear to be decent people. Whatever his problems were (10 arrests, late on child support, etc.) he apparently was not a violent man...just scared and nervous.
He didn't deserve to be shot in the back, imo.
The family will get a big payout on this one and they rightfully do not want to give Sharpton a cut.
There are scads of those on other threads about this incident who believe that he did.
Good for him.
I like your gif showing the cat in a suit giving two thumbs up.
A warrant for child support doesn’t constitute a reason to even run the man down in my book. Go arrest him at his home. Seriously, what was the threat to public safety that required him to be taken immediately? I bet they had not yet even attempted to find him.
If a someone gets pulled over for speeding and then takes off running after handing over their license, what justification is there for shooting them?
You are viewing the situation from a logical standpoint. It was not logical for the man to run, knowing he would be found later on. It was logical for the policeman to instantly think that the man would be found later on if he didn’t want to chase him down. Based on the video, it looks like murder.
Let justice take its course.
Imagine that you are in the jury pool. You'll hear from the defense that:
(1) This was an ordinary traffic stop that every man jack of us has experienced. Brake light out? OK. Happens.
(2) Driver has NO PAPERWORK for auto. "Just bought it, yadda yadda"
(3)Cop says get back in car and stay there. Returns to his patrol vehicle. All the cop knows is that this is not a "street legal" auto. Ordinarily, that's really not that big a deal. You park the car. Get a ticket. Call for a ride. Straighten it out. Pay the fine and go sin no more against the DMV.
(4) Escalation Point: Driver bolts from vehicle and takes off running.
Face it. At this point the officer, who may or may not, be the worst SOB since Hitler, has no idea whatsoever who this running away guy is, if it's his car, or if he's a car thief, felon, has a warrant on him, is an escaping mass murderer, jihadist, etc. That is the "Threat to Public Safety" of which you speak and the reason for taking him immediately.
This could be an extreme case of "Resisting Arrest." Advice to anyone out there who might be my son:
By all means hang this trigger happy SOB Cop at high noon on Martin Luther King Boulevard. After the trial.
BTW, between now and this fiend's trial, how many African-American citizens will be shot down on the streets of Chicago?
No. There are scads of Freepers who simply want the facts to come out before “convicting” the officer of murder.
Al and his ilk need to stay in a hole in Harlem.....
This family seems quite decent. They Sheriff said they greeted him decently and with respect which says alot considering what they've been through. They are grieving for their son. They deserve a big payout, he was shot in the back running away from the police. There is no excuse for that.
Walter Scotts family has a natural dignity - they’re not gang banger lowlifes like the Ferguson bunch. I suspect they’ll do their best to keep Sharpton out...and I hope they sue the pants off the city.
That actually happened to the brother in law of a friend of mine. They didn't shoot him. The guy was a real paranoid, fear the cops and black helicopters kind of guy. Police stopped him and he ran away (no warrants or anything). The family thought it was rather funny since the police were right there with his car, with his license tag on it. They know who he is when they have that info. Some people have an inordinate fear of police. I think now, wow, they could have shot him in the back for running away. Weird.
(A)
TRUE.
(B)
FALSE.
By running, Scott committed a crime. Policemen do not have the luxury of unwarranted conclusions. IOW, how was the cop to know Scott would not commit another crime to further his escape? It was absolutely the cop's job to stop Scott. Your quarrel is over the method the cop used to do so. Good jury question.
(C)
TRUE. Statement is accurate.
(D)
However....
Key Words: "looks like." That means it may not be what it looks like.
Whenever these cases come up, I want to qualify as a juryman. No conclusions before the trial, or the defense will throw me out during the voir dire! In this case, the prosecution might well hacve already disqualified me (gasp) for my answer to (B)!
