Dash cam video shows the moments before South Carolina police shooting

Authorities in South Carolina have released dash cam video in connection with the fatal shooting of Walter Scott, but the footage does not show the actual shooting.

Video from the patrol car of North Charleston's Michael Slager shows an initial traffic stop and early interactions between the officer and Scott.

Slager approaches Scott's vehicle. The two men speak. Scott tells the officer he does not have insurance and is in the process of purchasing the vehicle. Slager then returns to his patrol car.

Scott exits his vehicle, briefly, and Slager tells him to stay in the car. Scott then gets out of the car, again, and runs away, out of the range of the dash cam.

The possibility that the car might be hot also crossed my mind.

You forget the car theft suspicion.

We don’t know all the facts yet. The time between the dash cam video and the cell phone video maybe crucial. I heard one news report that there was a struggle within that time frame.

Given the the police chief and mayor have already found him guilty is damming though.

All the facts will be investigated and will factor into how much time the cop will have to serve.

If it wasn’t for the video the cop wouldn’t be sitting in jail with no bail, that’s for sure.

Cops kill people all the time, sometimes unjustly or by mistake.

A common theme in these shootings involving blacks is that the deceased all took actions contrary to the instructions of the police.

Perhaps blacks should receive free hearing aids from the government and a comic book describing what not to do if they don’t want to get shot by the police.

No, the real lesson is that some people think cops should be able to kill anyone, at anytime.

“Don’t you find it hard to shoot innocent women and children?” asked the liberal reporter to the Vietnam-era helicopter gunner.

“Nah,” replied. “I just lag ‘em a little more.”

(for the life of me, I can’t remember what movie this is from...)

Did Scott steal that car?

I haven't seen anything indicating that.

He ran for a reason, figure that out and the whole story may change

Supposedly there were non-payment of child support warrants out on him. Does that change it?

Maybe cops should get a comic book explaining that it's not appropriate to shoot unarmed suspects who are not a threat to the officer or anyone else?

He had to shoot him. He owed Child Support. It’s one of the most heinous crimes in the eyes of the government. Women and minorities are hit hardest.

Well, the important thing is that the murderer got home safely that night.

So the running guy is dead because he RAN AWAY.

The running guy is dead because the police officer shot an unarmed man who was no threat to the officer himself or anyone in the area. Fleeing has nothing to do with it. If fleeing from the police is a capital offense then why didn't the cop start shooting at him the moment he ran from his car?

I'm usually on the side of law enforcement but I can't see any reason for this killing. What I see is a police officer who has let the situation get to him psychologically and the heat of the moment has compromised his judgment......he is supposed to be trained not to let that happen..Unfortunately that is not a defense and like the rest of us he will have to pay for that mistake.

Hard to tell how that can justify shooting him in the back, though. The dash cam doesn't show any sign of him being violent... he just ran.

Would be to much to expect the cop might chase him instead of just blasting.....

I’m surprised the government didn’t bill the family for the cost of the bullets

We as conservatives complain that a lot of minority “youth” act wantonly and with complete disregard for human life and the consequences of taking such.

We also rail against this lawless Administration who is now controlling a bureaucratic apparatus that is systematically deconstructing this country in complete violation of established law. It’s Department of Justice is truly, truly blind to these actions, and our liberal-packed courts routinely validate this treachery. Both are also blind to horrific abuses on whites by minorities when it comes to hate-crime prosecution.

So when we as Americans try to plea for sanity and the rule of law, a blatantly egregious case of plain deliberate MURDER like this is being questioned with phrases like “maybe the victim did something that might have justified......”, “.....don’t run from the police.....”, and a plethora of other BS claptrap.

It is literally insane to abandon all reason and try to justify what this ‘officer’ did. No way, no how is justified.

The victim did do something wrong. But it didn’t warrant a death sentence.
But I still don’t understand the story which makes me suspect we are being escorted into a narrative by the media. The same thing happened with Trayvon and Brown.
