News King: Drudge is top driver to CNN, WaPo, Fox, AP, NYT, WSJ, Politico
The Washington Examiner ^ | 4-8-15 | Paul Bedard

Nobody beats Matt Drudge's popular Drudge Report when it comes to driving people to the world's most influential news sites.

A new infographic to promote the Drudge Report to advertisers uses statistics to show that no other website refers more traffic than Drudge to CNN, Fox, Washington Post, New York Times, AP, Politico and even the Daily Mail.

"Drudge has a profound effect on America's premier news outlets: it's the top source for referral traffic to industry powerhouses like Fox News, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press, and Reuters among others. That alone is extraordinary," said the report.

A blog post from Intermarkets about their client, added, "Conclusion: Drudge is a rare, unique premium publisher driving hundreds of millions of external visits each month."

What's more, virtually all of his traffic comes directly to his Drudge Report: his site receives two million unique daily visits and 700 million monthly visits.

Consider: About 87 percent of Drudge's traffic is direct to his site, and not through another website. But just 40 percent of the major media's traffic is direct, meaning the rest is from referral sites like Drudge.

"It is usually the first thing people see in the morning," said an official with Drudge's advertising firm, Intermarkets, which worked with the data company SimilarWeb to develop the infographic below.

I agree, I found FR on Drudge and I hardly go to Drudge anymore, I prefer FR. That was 1998. (probably earlier because I was a lurker quite awhile before I registered.)

My rule of thumb is that if it’s not on Drudge it’s not news.

I first went there and here only after hearing Rush mention it on the radio.

I used to go to Drudge.
Then around 1999-2000 thereabouts he started tracking visitors.
Never went back. IIRC he shut that down but I’ve never returned.
Get everything I need right here.

“I don’t know why so many people visit drudge to be honest. The website is messy”

Yes, but it’s news at a glance, and fits perfectly with our current societal short attention span and need for instant gratification.

Drudge is how I found FreeRepublic.com while reading up on this White House intern story.

I think the lefty media really hates Drudge, but they have to pay attention to what he posts because they know their competitors are.

I use newsnow.co.uk first for Afghanistan (once a Marine mom, always a Marine mom) and the middle east, then foxnews headlines, then spend about an hour here. I learn more from responding posts here and at the sources.

The reason I like newsnow is it is just a spider and I get to sift.

Drudge is my first news stop every morning. After that I hit FR.

I usually check both sites multiple times a day.

I was listening to Hannity when he mentioned Free Republic.

When Jeb Bush announced his candidacy a few weeks ago, a lot of reporters were asking questions. THere was one that he didn't seem to like, and he turned with a wry smile on his face and asked quietly, "Are you the Freeper?"

Nobody picked up on it at the tiem, or since, but I've seen a replay of that exchange a couple of times, and I'm quite sure that that is what he said.

I like it because it’s not messy to me, lol.

I like the plain black and white columns where I can find a link to almost anything I want.

I think his headlines and highlighted stories are not very anti-elite like they were in the beginning. That disappoints.
