For those of us in the business of talking about political trends for a living, the Pew Research Center’s latest “deep dive” into the politics of demography is a must-bookmark post.
Pew looked into the polling data from 1992 to today and found that the Republican Party is in no better shape than it was 23 years ago. Overall, the number of respondents who identify as Republican is down 5 points since 1992 while Democratic identification is virtually static. When those who lean one way or the other are included, 39 percent self-identify as Republicans and 48 percent as Democratic – a slight correction favoring Republicans from the nadir of GOP self-identification in 2008.
Demographically, the conventional wisdom which holds that the GOP is behind the eight ball when it comes to appealing to minority groups is confirmed by Pew’s data. African-Americans, Asians, and Hispanics all continue to self-identify as Democrats more than Republicans by over 30 points. Women with post-graduate degrees and the religiously unaffiliated also identify most strongly as Democrats.
On the GOP side, whites, religiously affiliated whites — Mormons, evangelicals, and protestants — and southerners demonstrate the strongest pro-Republican tilt. Generationally, the GOP enjoys a 4-point advantage among those age 69 to 86 while Democrats have a 16-point advantage with millennials age 18 to 33.

They must therefore make it abundantly clear that a) they not only do not support the right-wing government of Israel; they do not even support Israel at this time; b) they regard Benjamin Netanyahu as a vile human being; and c) they are ashamed — simply ashamed — of Israel’s Jews for having voted for a right-winger.

Love the way the article buries the fact that Democrats made up 33% in the 1992 poll, and in 2014 they comprised....wait for it....32%. Yet the article trumpets the fact that the GOP is down drastically: 5 whole points, from 28% to 23%. Independents are up from 36% to 39%. Overall, I’d say we didn’t do too badly, considering the MSM has been against us for decades.

American Jews, trying to be as American as possible and pretend that their religion is made up of nothing gooshy goshy feel-good pap that endorses gay rights, illegal immigrant rights, and indolents’ rights to be indolent, have become addicted to stupid gas, along with most urban Americans of all classes. In this context, Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state is embarrassing to them, and they are ambivalent.
Israel’s real backers, as far as the politicians are concerned, are religions red-stater protestants, and it’s they that move American politics. I would wager a close look at the demographics of the survey he refers to would at least be consistent with this hypothesis, though a specialized survey would probably be needed to confirm.
