When it was announced that Hillary Clinton was being asked to testify behind closed doors to Trey Gowdys committee investigating Benghazi, I assumed the veteran prosecutor had a strategy. The testimony will be under oath and taken down by a stenographer, so it will be on the record, but the American people will not be watching.
Perhaps the idea is to use the more relaxed environment to get Mrs. Clinton to open up? That hardly seems likely. More plausible is the notion that she will not have at her disposal demagogic tactics, such as her famous rant, What difference, at this point, does it make? which seemed to cow her interrogators at the time, though it has taken on a life of its own as a defining moment for her.

When you’re de facto royalty, it’s easy.
It’s ok, we can vote our way out of this in 2016.
/S
to hide the softball questioning and in order to spin the outcome.
I dont mind if shes behind a closed door.
Neither do I. But I prefer the door to have bars and a heavy locking mechanism.
To set answer/refuse to answer parameters for future questioning in a public hearing. Elitist practice session for future public appearances of being “representatives” of the people.
Congress has ALL the power in Washington
But if they choose to never use it, it is worthless.
He’s taking away her media/public defensive positions.
Hillary isn’t going to voluntarily testify about Benghazi. She doesn’t see any benefit to her by doing that.
When you are trapping a rattlesnake in your house, you can’t leave any escape routes for her. She’ll bite you and escape.
This is serious business. Gowdy is dealing with the #1 Presidential candidate for the Democrat Party. And this isn’t just a case of political theater. Four Americans died at Benghazi. They were murdered there. Did Hillary’s actions contribute to those murders? Serious business.
Gowdy is a prosecutor and knows that you don’t interview or depose witnesses or suspects in public for the simple reason that you don’t want coconspirators to align their testimonies. This increases the chances that you will get one or more of the coconspirators to turn on each other.
I think it’s smart. Why hold a public hearing when every question she is asked could be answered with, “I would be happy to answer but due to national security, that is classified information.”
If anyone can get Hitlery, It’s Trey, the Pit Bull.
Inherent Contempt
Congress has the authority to arrest and imprison those found in Contempt. The power extends throughout the United States and is an inherent power (does not depend upon legislated act)
If found in Contempt the person can be arrested under a warrant of the Speaker of the House of Representatives or President of the Senate, by the respective Sergeant at Arms.
Statutory criminal contempt is an alternative to inherent contempt.
Under the inherent contempt power Congress may imprison a person for a specific period of time or an indefinite period of time, except a person imprisoned by the House of Representatives may not be imprisoned beyond adjournment of a session of Congress.
Imprisonment may be coercive or punitive.
This was my question last week when the DOJ announced that they would not be pursuing a Contempt of Congress filing against Lois Lerner. There was nary a peep about using an Inherent Contempt filing as a viable alternative from Boehner et al. Matter of fact, the silence was deafening!
This was a perfect demonstration of the complicity of Congress in the ongoing corruptness in DC.
The Kabuki theater continues.
Wow- this is disappointing.....sounding more like Issa everyday.
Let the dog and pony show begin..... what total BS!
I have been posting this for a while now, I still hope that Rush or Hannity picks up on it and takes it NATIONWIDE. I know for a fact Rush visits this site occasionally. Short of a real powerhouse taking this to the people, I don’t see anything ever happening.
Sound and fury signifying nothing
Gowdy needs to hire Joseph E. diGenova to work on the Benghazi investigation.
Maybe Trey Gowdy has already found a horse head in his bed.
So sick of the Kabuki. Our ruling classes dance their stylistic minuets, and the established ways go on.
Yep...and like Donald Trump...all talk...all hair
Don’t any of these men care how they will be remembered in history? So few have any true convictions....where is their courage to do what is right? How sad for our once great nation of brave, courageous and moral people.
Gowdy is a political poodle: He has funny hair and barks a lot, but seldom bites.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you. I’m just wondering, how he would go about imprisoning her? He has no law-enforcement agency working for him.
