A new law to encourage gun owners to turn in their weapons to local police departments by rewarding them with tax credits is moving through the halls of Congress.

The Support Assault Firearm Elimination and Education of our (SAFER) Streets Act is due for reintroduction in Congress by Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro, The Hill reported.

“Assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense,” she said. “There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.”

DeLauro wants to completely ban any weapons labeled “assault,” as well as high-capacity ammunition, The Hill reported. At the same time, she emphasized her piece of legislation doesn’t force owners to turn in their weapons.

“There is no reason on earth, other than to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible, that anyone needs a gun designed for a battlefield.”

Is that why the Obama’s federal police have them? So they can kill as many people as they can in a short period?

“I’m sure people who own “assault weapons” will be lining up to turn them in now Rosa.”

Especially Chicago gang bangers who will line up in the rain to trade their “assault weapons” for “tax credits.”
Another symptom of liberalism being a mental illness.

“I love everything about assault weapons Crim and I’m not afraid to call them that.”

A sporting rifle is NOT an assult weapon....and never will be.

Because I think it’s counterproductive to get in people’s faces at the grocery store?

Iirc there was 85% noncompliance; 300,000 weapons in the hands of 100,000 owners who decided not to play.

The state actually sent out preliminary confiscation letters. To people who’d started the registration process (getting their names into the system) but didn’t complete it by the deadline. A good number of pro-2A groups threatened to come into the state to stage acts of armed (but non-violent and not directly threatening) civil disobedience, at which point the state and local cops stepped in and told the politicians to C&D with the insanity before they got people killed.

What sporting purpose do they serve in the aisles of a grocery store then?

No it’s counter productive to call sporting rifles “assault weapons” when they are no such thing.

You and Rosa DeLauro FULLY agree on that one.

Turn in your “arsonal” RC....including your “sniper rifle”

“Assault weapons are not about hunting, or even self-defense,” she said.

It's about time DeLauro got something right. "Assault" weapons are not about hunting Rosa, they are about killing tyrants like you.

You think an FN FAL is a target rifle or a varmint rifle? I don’t and I don’t care nor do I think it’s counter productive to call it what it really is. The second amendment is not about “sporting”.

It’s not an “ASSAULT WEAPON” unless it’s a select fire/ full auto....period.

Unless you posses a class 3 FFL it’s ILLEGAL to own an “ASSAULT WEAPON”...meaning you dont even own an assualt weapon.

Aren’t all weapons assault weapons when you use them to assault someone or something?

AR stands for Armalite Rifle (not assault rifle) - just in case somehow you were unaware of that fact.

I personally don’t see the point in feeding into the scare mongers’ hands by calling things incendiary terms that they made up to begin with.
