All the Rolling Stone has to do is find a lefty judge. As if that’s going to be hard to do!

Id think that they might want to consider settling out of court to avoid the embarassment!

Rolling Stone is now employing the John Stewart defense: “Hey, we’re just a dumb music magazine. What do we know about being jounalists, huh? Stop busting our balls!”

They should also sue the university professor on a personal level.
I hope Rolling Stone’s libel insurance I paid up, because Id hate to see the magazine fold because they missed a payment. Snort.

And now Rolling Stone can point out the strong steps they took to correct the situation, like finding NO ONE was actually responsible .... yeah, that should impress a court
To: MeshugeMikey
Sue ‘em. And go after every tv, radio, and print outlet that repeated the lie.
To: MeshugeMikey
I think they should sue rolling stone into poverty

I believe that the lawsuit has to be filed in the district where the offense occurred. I don’t know if that means in Duke’s district or the fraternity’s district.

I think the lawsuit will be very painful. Everybody will be a part of it and if they do settle out of court the figure is going to be huge if RS can even afford it. These frat boys are so young too and that will be with them for many years.
To: MeshugeMikey
They will try to settle out of court for a token sum but since they have already printed a retraction, going to court would be basically to try to reduce the damages.

Rolling Stone's resistant admission of wrongdoing and lack of contriteness in their culpability, is astounding. If they were serious about acknowledging their wrongdoing, they should be firing the author, the editor and others involved in this mess. By not doing so, they remain, in my mind, a third-rate periodical, still trying to be the voice of the 1960's hippie left, not a serious journalistic newspaper.
I hope the fraternity lawsuit burns a huge hole in RS's operating checkbook.
