Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania Voters Back Marijuana, Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll Finds

Voters in three critical swing states, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, support legalization of medical marijuana by margins of 5-1 or more and also support legalization of recreational marijuana use by smaller margins, according to a Quinnipiac University Swing State Poll released today.

Support for medical marijuana is 84 - 14 percent in Florida, 84 - 15 percent in Ohio and 88 - 10 percent in Pennsylvania, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.

The Swing State Poll focuses on Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania because since 1960 no candidate has won the presidential race without taking at least two of these three states.

Support for allowing adults "to legally possess small amounts of marijuana for personal use" is 55 - 42 percent in Florida, 52 - 44 percent in Ohio and 51 - 45 percent in Pennsylvania.

As if American voters aren’t stupid enough already. Let’s legalize MJ so their brains can be even more dulled

I love the way these questions are written. Why "small" amounts? If its for personal use, why not "large" amounts? Let's be honest here. Are you for or against legalizing pot? No "medial" or "small amounts" BS. Just ask if they are for or against it and see what the reaction is.

We, in Florida, voted down legal pot in 2014

More fun is asking 'conservatives' what article and clause in the Constitution empowers the Federal government to ban it.

To clarify, Florida rejected a Constitutional amendment explicitly making medical marijuana legal. The threshold for amending the constitution via referendum is 60%, and the measure only received ~57.5% support.

I personally feel the war on drugs is a war on liberty and excuse to increase the size and burden of government, and that the 'collateral damage' of this war are actually worse than what it proposes to rectify. That having been said, I don't think the State Constitution should delve into such minutia.

I'll be surprised if the legislature doesn't address it again before the next general election.

The medical marijuana initiative got 58% of the vote, 2 short of the 60% needed. The differences among the age groups were striking =>

_______________________________________________________________

Ages ==> Yes/No

18-29 => 79/21

30-44 => 65/35

45-64 => 60/40

65 + ==> 38/62

Or better yet, asking for proof of their wild propagandist claims, based on "Reefer Madness", which they fully believe was a documentary. Lol. Morons.

Just barely...& only ‘cuz it was an amendment to the State Constitution, therefore the bar was set much higher than your average law would have been, correct? Hopefully they will try again in 2016, & my spirits are high that the outcome will be much different.

Easy. The same part that allows the federal government to ban chemical and bacteriological weapons.

“The Swing State Poll focuses on Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania because since 1960 no candidate has won the presidential race without taking at least two of these three states.”

Florida 1960: 10 2012: 29 Diff: +19
Ohio 1960: 25 2012: 18 Diff: -7
Pennsylvania 1960: 32 2012: 20 Diff: -12
67 67

Note: 1960 total: 537, 1964 to present total: 538.

I did the math above because I thought the Florida gain would have far exceeded the Ohio/Penn losses. Surprised that they are the same total of 67. The difference is that Florida is much more of an important prize today than in 1960.

To what wild propagandist claims based on "Reefer Madness" are you referring?

We're gonna smoke it anyway, regardless of whether it is legal or not. You might as well learn to respect the 9th & 10th Amendments again & return this issue back to the States & let them decide what to do on this issue. The only Constitutional role that the Constitution gives to the Feds are protecting our borders (the Invasion Clause) & regulating (NOT prohibiting) interstate traffic.

No my friend, we aren't going to play this stupid little game. The part which grants authority to defend the nation from dangerous threats is axiomatic. It does not need elucidation, no more than the word "Arms" has to define bullets.

We don't have to specifically mention "Asteroids steered onto our cities by foreign intervention" to understand that we have a right to defend against it.

All dangerous threats that have the potential to kill millions are defensible. There doesn't have to be specific authorization for each and every threat.
