Non-citizens in New York City could soon be given the right to vote

New York City council is currently drafting legislation that would allow all legal residents, regardless of US citizenship, the right to vote in city elections

New York City is routinely described as a “global hub”, a place so thoroughly penetrated by international capital and migration that it seems at once within and without the United States. It is the centre of American commerce and media, but its politics, demographics and worldly outlook make the Big Apple an outlier.

New York may be about to become even more distinct. The left-leaning New York City council is currently drafting legislation that would allow all legal residents, regardless of citizenship, the right to vote in city elections. If the measure passes into law, it would mark a major victory for a voting rights campaign that seeks to enfranchise non-citizen voters in local elections across the country. A few towns already permit non-citizen residents to vote locally, but New York City would be by far the largest jurisdiction to do so.

Under the likely terms of the legislation, legally documented residents who have lived in New York City for at least six months will be able to vote in municipal elections. Reports suggest that the city council is discussing the legislation with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office, and that a bill might be introduced as soon as this spring.

While the legislation stands a good chance of sailing through the council and even winning the approval of the mayor, the prospect of New York City enfranchising its residents has stoked controversy. Many Americans find the idea of non-citizen voting entirely unpalatable and fear that it undermines the sanctity and privilege of citizenship.

“As New York City goes,” Dromm said, “so goes the rest of the world.”

Why bother with the inherent messiness of elections in the first place ? We can just rely on the moral and mental superiority of our betters. After all, they mean the very best for us underlings. Just shut up and give them whatever they demand of you.

Obviously the current voters are for it; they put the folks in place that move this crap forward. The current voters have proven they are progressive, so what, at this point, does it matter?
All this assuming the elections were not fraudulent.

Daniel Dromm is a seriously messed up libtard. I have trouble even trying to comprehend the utter stupidity of motions he's behind. He is insistent on denying native NYCers any rights and giving away the store to illegals and criminals. What in G-d's name is occupying this piece of fecal matter's cranium? It sure ain't a brain! The same could be said of the 'tards that elected this mess in. He is the city council's own version of Lubitz, with the stick heading the plane straight down into hell, as fast as he can manage it. And most of the NYC council members are right there with him. Insanity, that I had nothing to do with. It's really hard to live here when you are surrounded by such utter imbeciles who don't do their due diligence and vote entirely by the "D" by someone's name. They could be Jack the Ripper or the Zodiac Killer but if they have that "D" by their name, the ignorant anal orifices who live to the left and to the right of me WILL vote that garbage in!

It is no longer the Dem Party, it is now the ComDem Party.

Communist merger was formally consummated in 1984. The last year that the CPUSA ran a POTUS candidate. Since then they have always endorsed the Dems (ComDems).

They WANT/INTEND to totally collapse the system.

1/2 or more of the nation will refuse to comply. They can forget Texas. Will be a hot war before we accept this crap.

I concur. That’s why I qualify the potential/obviousness of fraud.

I’m quite sure this entire country is not made up of enough stupid people for honest elections to have resulted in the government we have.
