Police step up license plate readers to collect taxes now

If you live in Virginia and owe back property taxes, you should probably leave your car parked in the garage. That's because a few local police departments and towns are now using license plate readers provided by the Department of Homeland Security to spot people who owe back taxes and then impound their vehicles. Multiple agencies across the state were able to purchase automatic license plate readers thanks to grant money they received from Homeland Security's terrorism prevention program. But, rather than use them for security purposes, some seem to be using them to fill local coffers by collecting taxes.

Well, if you’ve done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about.

For now.

Where are these license plate readers mounted? I think one of the first things to do after CWII breaks out is to start destroying this intel-gathering (i.e., spying) infrastructure. Send crews to take out red light cameras, traffic monitors, and all the other buttinsky apparatus Big Bro is using to watch our every move.

No righteous government needs to know that much about the behavior of its citizens.

My question is, how do we get all those who do not own cars and don't pay taxes?

Stop voting them into office

Does that automobile seizure also apply to fat-mouthed
rabble rousing, community activist “rev-runds” that owe
the IRS multi-millions?

And it is 100% okay, all the time, no matter what.
And we all know the tax records are always 100% correct, always.
Pinging a dead body, he would tell us the above himself if he could.

*ugh!*

Recent article mentioned a woman being jailed over a fine she had already paid.
AW would have loved to have told us that was okay too.

Did you really think that we want those laws to be observed? ...We want them broken... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of law-breakers - and then you cash in on guilt.

That’s the irony of it.The “gimme-dats” don’t work. You cannot extract money from them. You go after the poor sap
that has to go to work and earn a living.

I do not think that owing money was a crime.

I live in NM. We only have back plates.

I tend to drive an SUV and, on long trips, have a cargo carrier that fits into my trailer hitch.

A strategically placed Yeti cooler makes the plate undreadable to cameras and yet remains legal, as the plate can be read from a plate level, straight-on view. A cop would have to be RIGHT behind me to read it.

Think strategically. Intel is intel. Hack the feeds, and you can use their systems to track them.

“You still have to pay rent.
Or get evicted.”

By nice men with guns...

Your right, it really does show you who owns your property.

Residents of Virginia get to pay annual property taxes on vehicles. Back in the nineties this despised tax was scheduled to be phased out, but it never got all the way to zero. The article doesn’t specify whether they’re seeking only such “personal property” taxes or also real estate taxes. I think it’s wrong either way.

Different version of this approach have been used for other things such as speeding.
Pass a check/camera point where a speed reading device is set up and if you are
speeding a photo is made of the license plate and you are sent a bill for speeding.
You may not have been driving the vehicle but the ticket is issued.

Big brother wants his money so impounding a vehicle seems to be one way to get
deliquent taxes paid. And mounted on vehicles it’s easy to check autos where ever
they are parked.

Seems if it was a auto tax they would not renew the license plate until paid.

No, the question is, what is the state going to do with all those cars?

If you’re behind on your car registration tag, expect to get hit.

That was true before cameras. You get a new expiration sticker every couple of years if you send in your money. If you don't pay, then no sticker.
