Question. I have often wondered. Does a student not have a contractual right to receive the services he has paid for, from a university, that is an education? Also, is there also a a freedom of speech right to be a racist jerk? Very tired of the academic culture being in loco parentis.

What’s wrong with these academics””

“..taken appropriate actions to suspend a student and begin code of conduct investigations...”

Is it not the civil and proper way to investigate first, then suspend if the investigation supports such action??

Also, this is precisely why people continue to use to over-done "Amish" term.

You know what you want to say. Everyone knows. But you can't say it. Because we are not free. So we blame it all on the Amish.

It's just protection for the speaker.

So I guess the University of South Carolina President can declare the First Amendment Null and Void if it fits his needs?

Can someone summarize what the “controversial” thing the student said?
I refuse to open The Blaze.

The university can say it is against their rules but they need to remember that they’re a STATE university. This is not a private institution. This is a state institution. The student should have freedom of speech and freedom of expression to be a jerk if the academic egghead hypocrites like it or not.

Hmmm..., I can think of many reasons why a college campus’s Wi-Fi would blow, but somehow the presence of colored people just doesn’t make the Top 10 List....

Doesn’t it seem like black people are the most overtly racist? They purposely strut their racism by their acts, their words, their music, their politics. It is said that it is not racist because they don’t have the power to discriminate against others. But they do have a large amount of cultural influence.

Racist and uncivil rhetoric have no place at the University of South Carolina.

If they applied that rule consistently, they'd likely have to fire most of the faculty and kick out most of the grad students.

So if someone listens to rap music that repeats the n word over and over and over... is that person violating civility?

What if the listener sings along, repeating the n word over and over and over out loud in public?

What if the listener/singer is black?

What if the listener/singer is white?

Is either in violation?

Both in violation?

If they are going to suspend everyone that uses or broadcasts The N Word™ then they are going to have an all white campus.

When I was in college 13-odd years ago there was a student code of conduct we agreed to abide by. I'm sure dropping the n-bomb was a violation and they could, and probably would, expel us for it.

Look at it this way. Anyone who is a "racist jerk", as you put it, and is eager to display it is probably too stupid to be in college in the first place.

This all reads like a phoney set up story.
Bringing in race on a critique of wifi??
Reads more like agiprop.
But this alleged ‘real’ event does inflame and distract from other stories of the day, like the crash of the ObamaEconomy.

Well, she’s right .. USC is an HBC: Historically Bad College. Its administrators, like others across the nation, have yet to learn that adopting nonsensical PC rhetoric will not make it an Ivy League school.

A student does have a contractual right to receive what he paid for, as does the people of South Carolina who subsides that education with huge grants.

If the university does not wish to do its job for all the students then they should not be paided, and they must fully refund the student for all tuition and board costs associated with his stay.
