University of South Carolina Suspends Student After Finding This ‘Racist and Uncivil’ Message
The Blaze ^ | Apr. 4, 2015 | Zach Noble

School President Harris Pastides said in a statement:

Today, the unfortunate and disappointing act of a student in a study room has challenged the Carolina community to reflect on our values and tell the world what we believe. Respect for all is at the heart of the Carolinian Creed, the code by which we agree to abide. Racist and uncivil rhetoric have no place at the University of South Carolina.

We have taken appropriate actions to suspend a student and begin code of conduct investigations.

Question. I have often wondered. Does a student not have a contractual right to receive the services he has paid for, from a university, that is an education? Also, is there also a a freedom of speech right to be a racist jerk? Very tired of the academic culture being in loco parentis.

What’s wrong with these academics””

“..taken appropriate actions to suspend a student and begin code of conduct investigations...”

Is it not the civil and proper way to investigate first, then suspend if the investigation supports such action??

Also, this is precisely why people continue to use to over-done "Amish" term.

You know what you want to say. Everyone knows. But you can't say it. Because we are not free. So we blame it all on the Amish.

It's just protection for the speaker.

So I guess the University of South Carolina President can declare the First Amendment Null and Void if it fits his needs?

Not in Wonderland - "Sentence first! Verdict afterwards." As the Queen of Hearts would say.

The university can say it is against their rules but they need to remember that they’re a STATE university. This is not a private institution. This is a state institution. The student should have freedom of speech and freedom of expression to be a jerk if the academic egghead hypocrites like it or not.

Hmmm..., I can think of many reasons why a college campus’s Wi-Fi would blow, but somehow the presence of colored people just doesn’t make the Top 10 List....

The clueless student wrote the "n-word" on a whiteboard list of things wrong with USC wifi and which was photographed by a cellphone camera and immediately went viral. "WLTX reported that the woman pictured in the photograph was identified by people online and received multiple threats since the image started circulating."

Doesn’t it seem like black people are the most overtly racist? They purposely strut their racism by their acts, their words, their music, their politics. It is said that it is not racist because they don’t have the power to discriminate against others. But they do have a large amount of cultural influence.

Racist and uncivil rhetoric have no place at the University of South Carolina.

If they applied that rule consistently, they'd likely have to fire most of the faculty and kick out most of the grad students.

Photo shows a presumably female student whose face is obscured writing on a white board:

“Reasons why USC WIFI blows:

—N?????
—incompetent professors
—ratchets (?)
—overpopulated campus
—PARKING...”

“And while all university students have access to programs and services that help bolster their academic achievement, students who qualify will benefit from a coordinated network of offerings that can further enrich their undergraduate experiences.”

http://www.sa.sc.edu/guarantee/

Maybe she offended the “coordinated network of offerings”.
