Amid a nationwide firestorm over so-called religious freedom bills, Michigans Republican governor is taking cover.
Rick Snyder told the Detroit Free Press on Thursday that he would veto a bill like Indianas if it made its way through the state Legislature.
Given all the events that are happening in Indiana, I thought it would be good to clarify my position, he told the Detroit paper. I would veto RFRA legislation in Michigan if it is a standalone piece of legislation. Though state Religious Freedom Restoration Act bills are not as controversial when the state also has anti-discrimination laws that include LGBT citizens on the books, Indianas lack of protections for gays and lesbians has led to accusations that the measure could legalize discrimination.
Connecticuts Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy told MSNBC that passing one without the other, as Gov. Mike Pence did in Indiana, makes Pence a bigot.
Snyder further told the Free Press that he would not sign an RFRA bill until broader, separate anti-discrimination legislation passed as well indicating that even an RFRA bill containing language that explicitly bars businesses from using it to defend discrimination against LGBT people would not suffice.

Thanks Governor Stupid. Nobody asked.
See? One coward, and they all fall like dominoes.
Why not just change the party name from Republican to Spineless Weasel???
Mememememe! Look at me!
“Firestorm, controversial, divisive, bitter;” words that always apply to the left’s opposition, but not to Loretta Lynch.
Put not your faith in princes.
Just gays and lesbians? This bigot has to understand that unless the rights of bisexuals, intersexuals, asexuals, transexuals, and trisexuals are codified into law, there can be no retreat and nobody’s rights are preserved. /sarcasm
The Indiana kerfluffle was never about acceptance or tolerance, it is about submisson.
He didn't get an Elliot Larsen bill last time, and he ain't getting one this time with a more conservative legislature.
It’s the Gubernatorial thing.
In a way, the leftist pukes are doing us a favor in separating the wheat from the chaff.
bunch of cowards, and if you are reading this then grow some frigging balls as the base is pissed off with this party.
Stand up., speak up , and defend America
Between the yellow turncoats in Congress, two ball-less governors, and this attention whore, I sure can’t wait to vote Republican in 2016.
Pansies.
And I mean exactly that.
With Detroit trying to engineer a comeback he should lobby some of the businesses that are leaving Indiana to relocate to Detroit.
Same with courting events like the gamers convention.
A few million pumped into the Detroit economy would go a long way.
Chicken squat.
MI always elects bad politicians and usually nominates bad
Republicans too.
Good job, Snyder. Just what REPUBLICANS DEMAND, a governor will to FIGHT FOR GAYS. Right.
Yo Rick, you just lost your re-election and dont even know it!
see ya!
