Gun collector gets $1,200 bill (for doing absolutely nothing wrong!)

EBENSBURG – In the words of Cambria County Sheriff Bob Kolar: some people collect model cars, some people collect motorcycles, some people collect guns.

One middle-aged Cambria County man is a collector of the latter. When an angry lady friend decided to strike out, it was in the direction of those guns that she struck.

A total of 306 rifles and shotguns

– some of which the woman alleged had been stolen – were removed from the home by Kolar and his deputies.

“We wore bulletproof vests. We had no idea what we where getting in to,” Kolar said Wednesday.

In the end, none of the guns was stolen. A two-inch thick stack of papers detailing each gun’s make, model and serial number rested on the sheriff's desk – information secured through the National Crime Information Center of the FBI.

The gun owner, who, at the request of authorities is not being named out of concern that his collection could become a target for thieves, is left with a $1,200 bill, the cost incurred by the sheriff's office for the confiscation.

It’s even less reasonable than him charging the county rental fees.

The man was denied the pleasure of his 300 weapons for days.

It seems to me the cops RENTED his guns, each of those 300.

The cops owe this good citizen MONEY.

Most likely A LOT of it.

So let me get this straight....a guy has a collection of objects, (could be anything). Some person who doesn't like the collector calls the cops and says some of the items are stolen. Without permission of the owner the police enter the man's home and seize his private property. None of the items were stolen.

Then the cops demand over one thousand dollars for their illegal confiscation. The collector should get a good lawyer and sue the bejeezus out of the county.

The problem is that too often, woman <> lady.

The nasty broad should be FORCED to pay the $1200. I don’t care if it means selling her last girdle to scrounge together the money. It was her big uncontrollable blab mouth that caused all the trouble, and SHE should pay!

Notice, once the Sheriff learned the whole story, he saw that it was all a crock, and not only refused to issue a permanent PFA; He vacated the temporary one.

And the gun owner needs to become a little more selective and avoid skanky big-mouthed broads.

Filling a false police report is a gross mIsdemeanor where I live. Sounds like a more polite version of “swatting”.

At least they didn’t shoot his dog. ;)

I’d be a bit more direct.....”Hey Sheriff - go phock yourself, and don’t come knocking at my door to attempt any sort of collection...”

Pay the bill, get the collection out of the hands of the sheriff, document all the damage and missing pieces, document all the costs involved, file civil action against both the county and the ‘lady friend’ including a restraining order against her as she’s already committed a felony in her sworn statement.

Sue both the department & the lady for the costs of the bill, the retrieval costs incurred, the costs incurred returning the collection to the places they were, and make sure to include collusion and conspiracy allegations against the joint litigants, and watch the county settle pronto.

To houeto: AMEN to that (I'm not the praying type but this is an exception)

To CGASMIA68: It would be WAY too easy to come up with other substitutes for "lady".
