Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno confirmed Wednesday that the Army will change its unpopular tattoo policy, with looser rules that allow for more ink to take effect in the near future.
“Society is changing its view of tattoos and we have to change along with that. It makes sense. Soldiers have grown up in an era when tattoos are much more acceptable and we have to change along with that,” the general said while speaking at a conference in Huntsville, Alabama, Army Times reported.

Over half of the idiots posting on this thread never served, yet they run their mouths about stuff they know nothing about. And your damn right I’m going to call you out when you have the balls to say the only reasons I have tattoos is because I hate myself and I must be a Satanist and a pagan.
My uncle had the Marine Corps emblem tattooed on his left forearm. He had been a DI at Parris Island and got transferred to Camp Pendleton. He finally amassed enough credit hours for his BA, after quitting high school at age 16. He applied for an LDO commission and had jumped through all the required hoops for commissioning; the final hurdle was the board. He was told that he would be a 2nd Lt upon losing the tat. This was in the early 60s and I’m told that removal of the tat was quite painful. He retired as an O-4.
The Army is just going back on a policy that wasn’t popular. When I was in a lot of people had crazy tattoos but than again this was during the war. The military was than accepting just about any body and every body who could pick up a weapon.
The fact is a lot of young Americans are not ‘enlisting’. Only a small minority do. Patriotism is sadly becoming a dying thing in society and its even amongst the ranks.
I joined to defend my nation and I’m glad I served but I’m also glad I got out.
