Let’s Face It, Republicans Are Cowards On Religious Liberty (But Voters Aren’t)
The Federalist ^ | 04/02/2015 | David Harsanyi

The GOP’s capitulation on religious liberty was as swift as it was predictable.

Republicans have talent for courting just enough controversy to generate prodigious amounts of negative press but at the same time not doing enough to accomplish anything meaningful. And few things in this world rattle your run-of-the-mill Republican more than some ginned-up outrage over “discrimination” or “bigotry.” The media’s deliberate distortion of the intention, reach, and history of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act—not to mention pressure from corporations like Apple and Walmart—was more than enough to do the trick.

What excuse does Mike Pence have for flubbing a simple question about discrimination on national television last Sunday? What’s his excuse for pledging to “fix” a law that’s already straightforward, innocuous, and ubiquitous? He’s not alone, of course. When Arkansas legislators passed the same bill by a wide margin (what the media calls “controversial”), Gov. Asa Hutchinson threw it back to lawmakers and asked them to rework it to guarantee that make-believe concerns of his MoveOn.org-mimicking son could be “fixed.”

I hope you’ll excuse me, my faithful friends, but if this is your leadership you are screwed. By claiming that RFRA bills can be “fixed,” Republicans are only corroborating the false impression that these bills allow wanton discrimination against gay patrons. By claiming that you can fix this, you are only pretending that there is a compromise available that would make it OK for Christian business owners to refuse participation in gay weddings. None exists. You will be hounded until you are made to coexist.

So, politicians can make cogent and compelling argument for why RFRAs—the most rational and genuine comprise available—are needed and why preserving religious liberty is itself an exercise in tolerance, or they can surrender. I bet on the latter. Even though surrender would be premature.

very true.

I’ve been stopped from going in all sorts of places, bars at night because my looks seem to scare them and think I will knock the bouncer out. I can’t go in a woman’s gym, etc etc etc.

I never cried, it’s part of life

I don’t think it’s that they’re cowards, it’s that they’re in agreement with the left.

The GOP has made it abundantly clear over the past few years that they have absolutely no use for what’s traditionally been their base and they’re working to rebuild without pesky, loud-mouthed conservatives.

LOL true, though my wife will kill me for even asking to go into a place like that and I like my life even if this country has gone to the dogs and communists.

Not only is the left aware of this - they’re ready to help nominate him in states with open primaries! They see him as easy pickins’, a surefire way for even haggard old Hillary to win.

The Clintons and Bushes are buddy-buddy now, so he won’t have the tenacity needed to attack her. Meanwhile, voters will see their chance to “make history” (excuse me while I BARF) after doing a quick comparison between The Bush Years and The Clinton Years.

I’m encouraging everyone I know to unite behind one conservative early on. Friends and family are coming on-board. It’s our best chance to get Cruz as nominee. Otherwise, we’ll end-up getting our usual squish not worth voting for.

If a religious Muslim Halal butcher named Mohammed refuses to slaughter Billy Bob’s pig named Jehosephat, should the Government have the power to permanently shut down Mohammed’s Halal Butchery without giving him an opportunity to defend his position in court?

They are part of the Dialectic to “progress” us into a NWO. Destruction of Rule of Law (Just Law) is essential and been happening since before Oliver Wendell Holmes removed Virtue from Justice-—so he could promote vice and evil “law” (which ceases to be law/null and void).

But, alas-—the slippery slope-—allowing Stalin’s Constitution to replace the American one long before we banned Jesus from the public square so their paganism and Satanism and sodomy could all be embedded in the worldview of children to make it “Good” and actually Flip 3000 years of ethics.

It would’ve been nice to see the higher ups from some major Christian Churches backing them up too.
