After same-sex ‘marriage,’ then what?
LifeSiteNews ^ | 3/31/15 | Michael Cook

March 31, 2015 (MercatorNet.com) -- March 29 marked the first anniversary of legal same-sex marriage in England and Wales. Look around, say the twitterati – no plagues of locusts and frogs have blighted the land; no fire and brimstone have rained down upon Westminster; no earthquake has swallowed up Sir Elton. All is well.

Well, actually not.

In an article in The Conversation, an academic at the University of Kent, Dr Mike Thomas, reported on how happy gay couples in the UK, the United States and Canada feel after tying the knot. He found that most of them welcomed the benefits that legal recognition of their relationship gave them.

But this was not matched by social recognition. Even though the majesty of the law shone upon them, relatives often shunned them and snubbed them.

For many couples, the wedding or civil partnership ceremony was a more bittersweet occasion, bringing difficult family relationships to a head – and reminding same-sex couples that despite their new legal status, they could not necessarily expect to be treated as equals.

Relatives often had few qualms about refusing to attend a ceremony; one couple’s same-sex wedding was boycotted by the entire family. The idea of a same-sex relationship may have been just about tolerable in some families, but being asked to turn up at the town hall and look like they were enjoying themselves was often too much to stomach.

A very positive milestone in a new couple’s life often turned out to be surrounded by bitterness and rejection. “Negative reactions were a surprisingly regular feature of the research interviews, giving rise to complex emotions, including anger, resentment and a sense of despair about the prospects for achieving equality,” Dr Thomas reports.

This complaint is ominous for those who have watched the juggernaut of same-sex marriage roll across its opponents. What is the ultimate purpose of same-sex marriage? Supporters of “marriage equality” contend that it is simply access to the same rights as other married couples, without any discrimination. Equality means equality of opportunity in parenting, employment, in exercising civil rights and before the law.

But the implication of Dr Thomas’s research is that many gays and lesbians believe that legal same-sex marriage ought to confer a right to be welcomed and cherished. He concludes that “Legal reform only takes us so far; it’s usually one of the first steps towards real equality, but it’s certainly not the final one. So one year on, we should raise a glass to same-sex marriage, but not lose sight of the challenges that lie ahead in delivering meaningful, day-to-day equality.”

What is implied by this “meaningful, day-to-day equality”? That relatives, neighbours and colleagues must extend warm congratulations and shower gay and lesbian couples with best wishes and toothy smiles?

Dr Thomas’s research is a bit unsettling if it suggests that gays and lesbians are expecting even more than the legalization of same-sex marriage.

Law in a democracy has limits. It is not a remedy for lack of self-esteem. It cannot force your relatives to attend your wedding or your neighbours to invite you over for a barbeque. It cannot make people like you; it cannot stop people from scowling at you. Only in North Korea does the law compel you to love the Dear Leader and to laugh at his jokes.

Same-sex marriage is controversial enough. But a debate over enforcing “meaningful, day-to-day equality” after same-sex marriage is legalized could be even more traumatic.

After same-sex ‘marriage,’ then what?

Then goats, chickens and 1974 Chevy Vegas.

And if they think they are being dissed now; just wait until they find themselves before the throne of The Almighty.

What they want they will never have— ever. Deep down, what they really want is to suppress their conscience that confirms to them that having sexual relations with a person of one’s own sex is unnatural.

I think this is why suicide is so prevalent in this group. From what i've read, it is the number one cause of death among homosexuals. For "transgender" there are actual numbers, and the suicide rate is 31%-50%.

They can lie to the conscious part of themselves, but deep down, they know something is wrong.

SSM is totally a GOVERNMENT CREATED ENTITY!

It is government created and GOVERNMENT PROTECTED.

No one believes in same sex marriage, and, as it turns out, not even those who do it.

If government was to disappear, all those “marriages” would also.

The devil’s never satisfied until everyone is burning in the lake of fire with him.

Well, he won’t even be satisfied then, now that I think about it.

A: Anything.

A: Nothing.

A: Everything.

If marriage isn’t one man and one woman, it is all of the above.

Will marriage...become according to the 50 states...a contract between two consenting adults...no “Marriage”.

States will still have laws controlling age to make contracts...

punish crimes against minors...etc.?

RE:”What is implied by this “meaningful, day-to-day equality”? That relatives, neighbours and colleagues must extend warm congratulations and shower gay and lesbian couples with best wishes and toothy smiles?”

It starts with popular opinion siding with the government taking away (confiscating through fines) businesses owned by Christians who oppose gay marriage, as we see now.

But this was not matched by social recognition.

There was a PBS special on a transgendered married man and his family. He had long hair, makeup, and was wearing women's clothes. He look pathetic and his wife looked sad.

They questioned their kids who were preteens. They asked how they felt about their daddy. The kids looked at each other and responded with incomprehensibly sad looks on their faces. They essentially said they knew their daddy was sick.

At the time I saw this on PBS there was no palpable gay rights agenda anywhere.

I will never forget their sadness.

Mentally ill people believe and desire many things. That doesn’t mean you oblige them by letting them believe their sick fantasies and allowing them to fulfill them..

Question: "After same sex marriage, then what?"

Answer: Lowering the age of consent to 12; legalization of all narcotics; bestiality; widespread infanticide; total legalization of suicide and doctor induced death on demand; polygamy and polyandry will be some of the vices allowed.

This pisses me off to no end.

We have a bunch of drama queens who are becoming a protected species while the 1st amendment does not count. The founding of this country does not count and it’s all because of a small group of people who like their sex with people of the same sex.

So why doesn’t the left just go on record now and say that we don’t want this pesky constitution and we should rip it up as we are here now and we tell you what to accept and to hell with history.

I’d also give a mention to the libertarians who went along with the left wing and liberals.

Thank you very much for being ignorant and stupid

sarc.

Well, he won’t even be satisfied then, now that I think about it.

When I look at the transformation of America over the past fifty years or so I am astonished at the apathy of most people.

And I am also struck with the realization that those who have imposed this upon us are willful agents of Satan who are fully aware of what they are doing and why.

Pedophelia, poligamy, beastiality, forced rape by homosexuals, grooming of children by sexual deviants, sex slavery of children, the list goes on.

This is what the homosexual deviants want, and they have plenty of comrades in government and business who want to cash in on the perversions of less than 2% of the population.

“They already have that.
Now it will be polygamy.”

You’re right, and that pressure will start with some of our Muslim imports who already practice it in a covert fashion.

Wives two and three appear to be single mothers who also happen to qualify for welfare.

The spineless politicians we elect won’t do anything to stop it because they fear being charged with bigotry more than they fear what this will do to our country. Just like with regard to anchor babies and illegal immigration.

I’m more angry at the cowards who know whats going on - that this is a political ploy with no basis in fact - and are in a position to respond yet lack the courage to speak up.

Lets look how they are talking or who they make fun of on their parades etc.

Yes it’s all about Christians, notice how they never mention Hindu;s , muslims , Jews etc.

This is about hated and bigotry towards Christians and the heathens in the media will back them up.

I have never spoken like this before but as days go by it is clear what is going on.

We are at war for the survival of the constitution and religious freedom and I wish the churches would get together with muslims, Hindu;s and Jews who follow their religion and get to DC and protest this outrage and tyranny.
