It was a really good country.
You can try opening each of the “pages” in a new tab. Once the pic loads you will see a zoom icon in the upper left corner. If you click on the zoom icon and the page will at least double in size.
I have found this helpful on occasion, especially the maps.

The photo of the flamethrower tank reminds me of the series “Lowell Thomas Remembers” on PBS. Thomas was the narrator for Movietone News and the series was a collection of those film clips. I watched it with a couple like minded friends in college.
There were two scenes we still laugh about. One was from Okinawa were the flamethrower tank works over the Japanese position, and Lowell Thomas exultantly declares “Look at those Japs burn!”
The other was “Round the Clock Bombing of Europe,” complete with a crude animated clock superimposed over film of B-17s dropping their loads. On that one Thomas says “That’s 10,000 tons of death for the Nazi war machine!”
Yeah, we laughed because we’re demented. Also because you wouldn’t see that in 1980, much less today. It would be like showing film of the Marines pissing on dead terrorists and Brian Williams declaring “That’s the best bath you’ll get you nasty goat humpers.” Yeah, that would happen, only if Williams said he’d killed thm with his bare hands.
Ack ack is for the urinal if there’s a fly buzzing around.
It’s a whole different world.
The sad part is that it is the liberal mush-minded mindset that will cause something similar to happen again. And there is no guarantee that the outcome will be nearly as good.
