STATE RELIGIOUS FREEDOM RESTORATION ACTS
The National Conference of State Legislatures ^ | March 30, 2015 | by Jonathan Griffin

Posted on 03/30/2015 5:03:46 PM PDT by Oldeconomybuyer

In 1997, in the City of Boerne v. Flores decision, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) did not apply to the states.

Since 1993, 20 states have enacted state RFRAs. These laws are intended to echo the federal RFRA, but are not necessarily identical to the federal law. Indiana is the most recent state to enact a RFRA, doing so this year.

Sixteen states have introduced legislation this year regarding the creation of, or alteration to, a state religious freedom law.

Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas currently have a RFRA, but have introduced legislation this year to amend or supplement their law. Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming are looking to add a RFRA or similar law to their state's laws. Indiana has enacted legislation on this topic in 2015, and Mississippi passed legislation in 2014.

Brilliant observation. Exactly right. That is how this Administration has been acting since taking office. Simply going from one scandal to the next, diverting the public's attention to the things that are REALLY important using polarizing, divisive issues to keep the masses distracted until one day ... PRESTO! Another right has been taken away by the Obama Administration.

Which got me to thinking .... remember that "rumour" that Obama was looking at ways to raise taxes by Executive Order, circumventing Congress?

Or how about how the Iran negotiations have been reduced to Obama giving Iran every single thing they've wanted, and how the Obama Administration has become nothing more than Rouhani's sock puppet for the UN?

Dammit Norm, you're brilliant. Nailed it. Well done.

Can I ask how the left decides on what issues, and at what time, they decide to have meltdowns over issues?

Take this Indiana law, for example. Considering that a number of other states have such laws, and the federal version of the law was cited in the Hobby Lobby decision, clearly such laws are constitutional. Yet the left decided only in recent days to have a meltdown over these laws, when Indiana passed their law. Why then, and why now?

Why the calls to boycott Indiana, when Indiana is only one of many states with such laws?

Why did the left have a meltdown over the Arizona illegal alien law, when their law mirrored the existing federal laws on the subject of illegal immigration?

Why did places such as L.A. decide to boycott Arizona in response to that law? But then, when it was discovered that L.A. buys about 25% of their electricity from Arizona, L.A. decided not to boycott Arizona. So then, what is the leftist position? That you can’t boycott and make a political statement if it interferes with air conditioners cooling off the people of L.A.??

Why did the left have a meltdown over stand your ground laws at the time of the Trayvon Martin case, when many states had had stand your ground laws for decades, and, stand your ground was not even part of the Martin case in the first place? What caused the left to have their hissy fit over stand your ground, at a time and a place in which it wasn’t even an issue?

Why did the left NOT have meltdowns over ten years ago, when state after state passed laws or amendments defining marriage as a man and a woman? Certainly they were pissed off about those laws. But they never organized boycotts or had meltdowns over those laws.

This was orchestrated by the Progressives. Just one more part of the divide and conquer plan. Whether it be blacks, war on women, queers, welfare queens, etc., just find a minority and see how much feces you can stir up. Does His Arrogance have martial law in mind after he gets them all fighting each other?

By the way, the response from the left was a expected.
