Unhappy With a Moderate Jeb Bush, Conservatives Aim to Unite Behind an Alternative
NY Times ^ | March 25, 2015 | Trip Gabriel

Fearing that Republicans will ultimately nominate an establishment presidential candidate like Jeb Bush, leaders of the nation’s Christian right have mounted an ambitious effort to coalesce their support behind a single social-conservative contender months before the first primary votes are cast.

In secret straw polls and exclusive meetings from Iowa to California, the leaders are weighing the relative appeal and liabilities of potential standard-bearers like Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and former Govs. Rick Perry of Texas and Mike Huckabee of Arkansas.

big money donors do not turn out voters...

But if we and are counterparts on the true left don't stop them, big money interests will choose both candidates. And then voting becomes a joke.....again.

“Who is the Christian Left getting behind?”

“Christian Left”? Are you kidding? Oxymoron. A person absolutely cannot be a true Christian and a leftist. The democrat/left platform is antithetical to Christian, Biblical principles.

If you’re referring to “small-c” christians, i.e., not Jewish, not atheist, not Muslim, who the hell knows? Last time most of ‘em, including Catholics (not “Christian”) went with Obama, and they’ll do the wrong thing again this time around.

Ted Cruz: Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy[36] from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992.[4][6] While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society's Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship.[37] In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year, as well as Team of the Year, with his debate partner, David Panton.[37] Cruz was a semi-finalist at the 1995 World Universities Debating Championship, making him Princeton’s highest-ranked debater at the championship.[38][39] Princeton's debate team later named their annual novice championship after Cruz.

Cruz's senior thesis on the separation of powers, titled "Clipping the Wings of Angels," draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to President James Madison: "If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and that the last two items in the Bill of Rights offer an explicit stop against an all-powerful state. Cruz wrote: "They simply do so from different directions. The Tenth stops new powers, and the Ninth fortifies all other rights, or non-powers."[

After graduating from Princeton, Cruz attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1995 with a Juris Doctor degree. While at Harvard Law, he was a primary editor of the Harvard Law Review, and executive editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. Referring to Cruz's time as a student at Harvard Law, Professor Alan Dershowitz said, "Cruz was off-the-charts brilliant."At Harvard Law, Cruz was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics.

The NYT is trying to choose our candidate. We should not unite around a conservative just to spite them. Besides, there is more than one conservative running.

22 million people today heard Cruz blow ‘global warming’ out of the water on Rush today. GW is dead bottom of the list Americans are worried about.

Are you starting to feel positive again? After all these years?

Walker also has Democrats in the Senate and House and
STILL is able to get his ultra conservative agenda through.

Why?

You do realize that there were 34 lawyers at the original constitutional convention, many of which, were signers of the US Constitution.

Maybe you meant left-wing lawyers?

We could just as easily make an overly broad statement that we don't want anymore Governors as POTUS given the disastrous record of many of the Governors that became POTUS.

Same lack of clarity and over-generalization.

You do realize that over 50% of the founders that signed the constitution were lawyers, right?
