It also got her fired from her first job. Lee grew up in Sacramento, Calif., working at a Chuck E. Cheeses franchise, where a customer one day brought Lees elderly co-worker to tears, demanding a replacement birthday hostess who wasnt so old and didnt have a foreign accent.
I had this 16-year-old sense of social justice, which led me to go out and have words with this mom, said Lee, who recalls telling her, Who do you think you are?
No one today is going to fire Lee for speaking the truth about Silicon Valleys dismal diversity problem, but she might have one of the hardest jobs in the industry: leveling a playing field that is heavily skewed against women, African-Americans and Latinos.
After fighting a 2010 attempt by the Mercury News to disclose the racial and gender breakdown of its employees, Google last year became the first big tech company to come clean about the demographics of its tech work force: 83 percent male, and only 2 percent Latino and 1 percent black.

translation: For each new H1B software engineer we’re going to hire one Amish high-school dropout who could not write a string of code if you put a gun to their head. All to placate the White Hut and Rev. Al.
If you have to hire based on gentalia and skin color, that is foked up
So they’re going to diversify their workforce, does that mean they will hire some Christian, conservative pro life traditional marriage regular people?
Productivity and quality no longer matter.
You’re now required to pay a “diversity tax”, which is non-value added.
Would be interesting to know the percentages of those same who get a computer science degree... or even an MIS degree each year?
Blah blah blah
Diversity is just another word for the displacement of whites.
Di longer you verk here diverse it gets.
“If you have to hire based on gentalia and skin color, that is foked up”
They don’t have to. They are choosing to.
Now that’s _______________. Please fill in the blank with
your colorful phonics.
Improving diversity is often a code phrase for discrimination and hiring based on what a candidate is rather than what they can do. Google is a lefty organization whose search software works. Now look for a decline in functionality and an increase in cost.
lol
Speak the truth!
Absolutely.
Diversity has a working definition of
fewer white people/men,
less Western Culture.
The ultimate diversity, then would be no white male Christians working at the company.
“So theyre going to diversify their workforce, does that mean they will hire some Christian, conservative pro life traditional marriage regular people?”
Not many left. Most are moving to Texas. They have been
properly diversified out already.
As a female whose employer often forgoes talent and drive in order to meet a diversity quota and lay claim to the bragging rights that come along with it, I can honestly tell you that the only real minority in this country is the white male.
White guys are expected to do most of the work, to make up for their slacking counterparts who are, more often than not, a double minority. I’ll leave that to the imagination, but I experience this in my workplace on a daily basis...minorities often coast, knowing that they are secure in their boobs or their skin color. It’s despicable.
I’ve been told that my boss treats me like “one of the white guys” and I wear it like a badge of honor.
Not sure how “Who do you think you are?” is supposed to be any more coherent than saying “Do you know who I am?”
I would have probably liked to have you as some sort of super or boss as opposed to 85 percent of the female in charge types I’ve known or had to suffer with.
There was one time where I had a freak attack of muscle spasms where one side of me was in a hell of a lot of pain. She looked at me and just stared off into space. If it something else that like a heart attack or something fatal, she would have probably laughed and did nothing.
The chiropractor fixed me right up. No idea why and it never happened again.
Talk about stepping through the looking glass....”speaking the truth about Silicon Valleys dismal diversity problem”......I have never heard a more ludicrous statement....obviously made by someone who has never stepped foot in any Silicon Valley Company in the last 20 years.
I’m speaking as a woman, a satellite systems engineer and a 33 yr employee of a major aerospace firm.....(P.S. I hate diversity. I like working with really smart people who work hard and as a result “diversity” takes care of itself...)
95% of the women I’ve worked for have been real terrors...like, get that PMS under control, woman. Nobody has time to deal with your mood swings. Midol is just a caffeine pill, and coffee is equally as effective. I digress.
I suppose I’m an anti-feminist, if such a thing even exists. Whoever that woman was watching you, she deserves a swift kick in the ovaries. I’m not sure what kind of boss I would make, at the moment I am a mere plebeian.
Man! Misogynist post of the day!
EDGY! Nobody does that!
