Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz announced that he will run for president in 2016 via a Twitter post early Monday, becoming the first major candidate to officially declare.

"I'm ready to stand with you to lead the fight," Cruz says as the video concludes. Shortly after midnight Monday, the campaign had launched its website

Cruz had been expected to make the official announcement later Monday during a speech at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. He is expected to start his campaign immediately rather than launch an exploratory committee, which many do as a precursor to a campaign.

Incredible! On Fox, Carl Cameron is criticizing Cruz for lack of experience. Okay, consistent. Cruz will have to show he is no Obama, a pretty low bar.

Now the democrat knives will come out. The moment there is a threat to their stranglehold on power, they set out to destroy their opponent.

The Dems and the RNC will be taking turns on “keeping their blades wet” until it becomes inevitable that Cruz has it locked up, even then the RNC will stand pouting in the corner not raising their blades to defend cruz, but they won;t be stabbing him in the back after that (we hope)....

Brilliant speech by Ted at Liberty. He powerfully reached out to the evangelical base, conservatives, Jewish voters, young adults, college students, and pro-life voters. Also, he was able to inspire the crowd by so vividly painting the pictures of some of the greatest moments in American history and asking the audience to imagine they were there at the time and able to hear the great visionary leaders issue their challenges to the country for doing great things in the name of freedom. Finally, his delivery is astoundingly good, and he spoke for around 40 minutes without notes or a teleprompter.

Let them!

This is a guy that isn’t afraid of a single one of those homos, unlike JeBush or the other Bob Dole types.

Those people are only as strong as their opponents are weak.

I just contributed at Sen. Cruz’s website.

Does anyone have a link to a video of his speech?

I will predict Ted will lead with most voters in the Conservative, Independent, and Evangelical (he is Southern Baptist) segments and a respectable group of Latinos and possibly even a respectable portion of Libertarians. I think that's a great base. And there may possibly be some old-fashioned Dem voters with a little patriotism left (Reagan Democrats) that might support Cruz, as well as some new Jewish voters.

But there is a long bumpy, twisty road ahead, and anything can happen. Look for a massive effort from the dimmanazis to Cain Cruz.

Great summary!

I really like Cruz. I will be donating to him. Heaven forbid, but if he doesn't get the nomination I can live with Scott Walker and maybe Rand Paul after that I think I'll sit out the election. No more GOPe nominees.

I'm more concerned about our "friends" in the GOPe. Cruz will eat up any Rat in a debate, or any other type of confrontation. He is quick witted, confident and unwavering.

The GOPe is terrified of Cruz. He actually believes what he says. You can see on Fox News the message has gone out that he's not their guy. So it's got to be a grassroots effort.

You’re right, the GOPe is as dangerous of an enemy as the dems, but not quite as slimy.
