I live in Maine. Gov. Paul LePage is one of the most conservative governors in the country, perhaps THE most conservative, and he, the governor, doesn’t mince words.
Maine has had once of the highest state income taxes in the country. Gov. LePage has reduced it somewhat, but he recently announced that he wants to get rid of the state income tax altogether, and the estate tax, too.
Stephen King is a big time lib, so he and LePage have been at odds before.
The governor has recently said, “There are no rich people in Maine. They have moved to New Hampshire, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and South Carolina. If you want to see rich people in Maine, you’ll see them in the summer.”
If you live in Florida for six months plus one day per year, you’re considered to be a resident of Florida. Many middle class people winter in Florida and then spend five or six months in Maine. I know many people who do just that.
It’s not just “the rich.”
Also, the governor wants to tax the liberal “non-profit” groups here in Maine.....man, are they complaining about THAT idea!
LePage is also a very strong Second Amendment guy.
I hear LePage on Howie Carr’s show. He’s great.
your guv sounds like everything Marx Dayton is not
most conservative governors in the country
Glue? Dust? Weed? Can’t tell.
Leftist non profits are the bread and butter of maine. All need to be taxed along with the Foundations that people like Stephen King start to shield monies and give their kids jobs.
Big successful corporations and sub corporations like Maine Medical center which owns some of the most prime and successful real estate in Southern Maine and shields itself through non profit status need to pay their fair share. These are for profit big businesses who shield themselves from taxes though the non profit shield.
True, when my parents retired they had a summer place in Maine, a house in Florida and the house I grew up in in CT. They didn’t want the CT house so they sold it. Maine was on a lake and we used it year around.
going after non-profits...man I love that guy
I moved from Maine in Dec 2013. Moved to Florida. When La Page was running I wrote to him, told him my plans and told him he should eliminate Maine income tax.
