Tom Cotton picked apart by Army general over ‘mutinous’ Iran letter
WASHINGTON POST ^ | 13 MARCH 2015 | JONATHAN CAPEHART

The open letter to the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran signed by 47 senators and instigated by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) was a stunning breach of protocol. One so outrageous that my former colleagues at the New York Daily News dubbed the signers “traitors.” While it is indeed a slap in the face of President Obama and an affront to the presidency, I’m not sure I would go that far, especially since Cotton is an Army veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. So, I turned to retired Major Gen. Paul D. Eaton for perspective. He wouldn’t say Cotton and Co. were “traitors,” either. He had a better word.

“I would use the word mutinous,” said Eaton, whose long career includes training Iraqi forces from 2003 to 2004. He is now a senior adviser to VoteVets.org. “I do not believe these senators were trying to sell out America. I do believe they defied the chain of command in what could be construed as an illegal act.” Eaton certainly had stern words for Cotton.

Despite spending almost 40 years in the Army, this guy Eaton never heard a shot fired in anger.

If Obama and the Europeans don’t like what Cotton and others have done, it must be the right thing.

Cotton for President. Netanyahu for President.

...they defied the chain of command...

Last I checked, Congress is not under Obama's chain of command. I seem to recall Congress being an equal and separate branch of the government.

Of course, that is based on my old fashioned copy of the Constitution. I haven't checked the New and Improved Constitution that includes freedom from religion and homosexual sodomy as constitutional rights. Maybe Congress being subverted to the will of Our Glorious Leader is hidden somewhere in the Emanations from Penumbra clause.

And apparently utterly ignorant of the Constitution. I’m sure you’ll have an excuse for that too.

"I do believe they defied the chain of command"

In other words, we had a General that was ignorant of the Constitution since he thinks the President is superior to the House.

Major Gen. Paul D. Eaton. Everyone should know the face of political sellout that craps on his oath to defend this nation.

Congress is not in the Presidential chain of command. It is separate and equal of power in our government as the President. In suppose this idiot would consider impeachment mutiny as well.

Coming from a military guy that understood the seniority of the military (with the President as the commander in chief) I can see his viewpoint. I’m not a legal expert, but the Senate is not under that same framework.

General Eaton is an asshat, who knows not the Constitution he swore an oath to protect, and defend. The only chain of command exists in the military. In Mordor on the Potomac, there exists "three separate, but equal, branches" in Government; Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. Not one above the other.

Hell, I was just a Marine Sergeant, and I'm smarter than a damned two-star honey bucket?

Bastard needs to take up fishing instead of opining.

The Senate is not in his precious "chain of command".

There was once a constitutional set of checks and balances, i.e. three co-equal branches of govt. designed by the founders to prevent tyranny. It was that way until Obama circumvented it and the corrupt Repubs failed to stop him.

There is a BIG difference between Neville Chamberlain and pResident Obola:

Chamberlain was a patriotic fool, Obola is a TRAITOROUS fool.

The press doesn’t have to look hard to find someone to say anything about anyone that fits their narrative agenda.

Chain of command? Last I looked the House and Senate are not oart of the Armed Forces and as such, they have no CIC.

Eaton, your boss is not their boss a fact very few seem to remember.

This letter has gotten under their skin, big time.

From the Wikepedia site:

After retiring from the Army in 2006 Eaton was a frequent guest on various media outlets, where he often criticized the Bush administration's prosecution of the Iraq War. In 2007, Eaton appeared in a political ad for VoteVets.org, similar to the ones prepared by John Batiste. [1] Eaton asserted that President Bush did not heed the advice given by his military commanders.[citation needed] Eaton appeared on Bill Maher's talkshow and spoke out strongly against those who launched the Iraq war. In 2008 Eaton served as an advisor to Senator Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. Following Clinton's concession of the Democratic primary, Eaton has made several appearances in support of Senator Barack Obama's presidential campaign.

One of Obammie's whiny pi$$ boys.

Retired General Weasely Clark is so yesterday, getting a little long in the tooth, short in the brain waves...and boringly-dated......like Hillary.

So look for the TV media to latch on to this fresh-faced retired loser.

When we see him on PMSNBC and CNN as a military anal-yist, we'll know he fills their criteria for an out-of-work, leftist, girley, dopey "expert".

He is most certainly ignorant of the Constitution as I pointed out in my original post. As for myself, I had no idea that I was in the presence of the world’s smartest observer of the world scene and a consummate a$$hole to boot. I am impressed.

“I do not believe these senators were trying to sell out America. I do believe they defied the chain of command in what could be construed as an illegal act.” Eaton certainly had stern words for Cotton.

The US Senate is not in the "chain of command" of the executive branch. The US Congress is a separate and equal branch of government.

The general is in the chain of command to the executive branch.
