On March 6 an NBC affiliate reported MLK, a school with 731 students and 99% black, had 1635 disorderly incidents in 2014. The kicker? The $40 million dollar state-of-the-art middle school opened in January of the same year.

A liberal acquaintance lectured me recently about how it’s more money that is needed to fix the “problems” with education. I think this article shows clearly, that $40 million dollars later & a state-of-the-art school, throwing more money at the issue is not the solution. This guy is a major player in the “social justice” movement (goes to protests of state legislature ‘repressive policies’), thinks abortion is A-ok & wants to take MY gun away .... he is eager to confiscate more taxpayer money to throw at the ferals .... and feral animals is about what most of these kids are, raised with very little if any family life/discipline, no respect for human life and authority/rule of law and no consequences for their very bad, if not criminal, behavior. Obama & his ilk are just throwing gas on the fire & one of these days, those that act like sub-humans are going to erupt into something that can only be dealt with by the citizenry defending themselves.
I agree except start it at 8th Grade...before the "little darlings" can really get rolling with the 'tude.
The world still needs tradesmen and if the kids can't sit in a classroom, then put them in shop class.

You make an excellent point. By and large, the union leadership are enablers. They cover for incompetent, cowardly, and often racist administrators. They will not support victimized teachers. As a veteran urban public school teacher, I find that more than odd. I find it disgusting.
Yet the leadership is voted back in, time and again. I suspect that voter fraud plays at least a part there. Another problem is that the elementary teachers, who make up a huge voting block, don't seem to be inclined to rock the boat. They almost always vote for the status quo.

It might surprise you. They are sometimes dumping grounds for new teachers or teachers who can’t keep a position. In short, some of the worst teachers.
Incredibly, the attitude gets way out of control in some situations as early as grade 5. The answer is besides vocational education more recess and phys ed opportunities where the young ones can play a little rough and without everything dictated.

Yeah, it’s been a few years since I was in school...
I do know that parenting has a lot to do with the kids and behavior.
Our son went to a school on a military installation...I can’t recall hearing of any problems.
The schools downtown? Another story altogether.
I had a teacher tell me privately and off the record that he didn’t want the kids in his majority black school to have vocational education. His reason?
Paraphrasing him, “They are already freaking nuts and dangerous to boot! And you want to teach them how to run machinery that will let them build better weapons! You’re completely nuts too.”
Well it was eye opening and educational to learn how he really felt.
Except for the Black girls who go votech and into cosmetology. If you can master expert weaves, you WILL make great money. Lesser skilled can do nails (as racial preferences make Asian owned salons less preferable).
My kids went to public schools. When we lived in Kansas the schools were awesome! Then we moved to Georgia and the schools seemed to only care that the kids behaved in school. They came home with tons of homework and had no clue how to do any of it. We may as well have home-schooled them. Too much “social” stuff instead of teaching.
My wife is spec ed teacher in a public school. She likes that the administration pretty much ignores the spec eds so she gets to teach real subjects which some of her kids do well with. She has had a couple that should never have been referred for spec ed but their parents do not want that situation rectified because their kids are learning to read and write and cipher which, in the other primary classes is best done at home. Both of us think that people who care about their kids should sure as hell be teaching them outside the public schools.
Most kids we know are home-schooled, and they (as well as their moms and dads) are ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! There is a local church-based co-op that home-schools using a corps of dedicated moms and dads to teach various subjects that run the gamut - of interest, they teach music but the kids have to learn a totally new instrument. It is so cool to go to the concerts, the kids learn SO quickly! I remain in awe of these children as well as their parents - if this country is to have a future, you can find it with them.
In general I agree with you with one caveat. There is a class of American Blacks like Clarence Thomas, Allen West, Ben Carson, Herman Cain, Condi Rice, business analyst on Foxnews, etc., etc., that have pulled themselves up and achieved the American dream by hard work and moral virtue. These are not to be confused with the feral “yutes” that populate our inner cities.
They do not need so called Black leaders, they need their own families that need to get their crap straight and until they learn stop depending on others and learn to take care themselves they will never make it except for the ones that figured it out, but they leave and never go back to those places.
I may have a similar skin color but they are not my responsibility and are not my problem, their parents needs to get $*it right about raising them, quit blaming some mythical man holding them down or if they cannot do even that, then they do not need to breed in the first damn place, either one is fine by me.
Why ruin the vocational schools by sending these disruptive kids to it? There are many talented young people who could learn trades at such schools.
What we really need are two sets of schools. Students in a district who demonstrate by bad behavior that they do not want to be there would be sent to an alternative school, where they would be schooled in social graces.
Yes, I know there are alternative schools now, but they are not properly utilized. During my year teaching at a public high school, some students were sent there only to be sent back to my classroom after only a short period of time at the other school. Nothing was gained except a brief respite from the trouble maker.
BTW, whenever I see an opinion that implies that working with one’s hands in a trade is somehow beneath someone in a white collar occupation, I feel like I am in the company of a an elitist progressive. One type of work is not superior to the other; they just require differing sets of skills and dispositions.
