French Submarine "Sinks" Entire US Aircraft Carrier Group During Wargames
Sputnik News ^ | 3/9 | Cliff Davis

A series of joint naval drills between the United States and France recently didn't quite turn out the way the US, no doubt, expected. The practice scenario ended with the French nuclear submarine that was acting the part of an enemy ship "sinking" the American aircraft carrier and most of its escort.

The exercises took place over 10 days starting in mid-February off the coast of Florida. The French nuclear attack submarine (SNA) — named Saphir — joined US Carrier Strike Group 12, comprising the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (nicknamed the "Big Stick"), several Ticonderoga cruisers or Arleigh Burke destroyers and a Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine.

"...and a Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine."

That alone would have been enough to keep the Cheese-eating Surrender Monkey's at bay....

What they won’t tell you is what kind of convoluted rules of engagement they established for the exercise.

Not that we don’t have a serious anti-submarine defense problem. I believe we do.

That sub is over 30 years old. If I was in charge we wouldn’t have much of any surface fleet. Carrier groups are nice if you want to beat up countries that can’t fight back on the seas. But I doubt those carriers would survive hypersonic cruise missiles and modern subs. The new non nuclear subs are super quiet. With new technology, air independent propulsion they have a good range compared with the old DE.

I often think that the big carrier groups are sitting ducks. The Battleships of our generation.

The US was so impressed with the performance of the latest Swedish diesel air independent propulsion sub they leased it and the crew for a year. From what I understand, the Swedish sub was so quiet and stealthy during exercises it kept penetrating the ASW screen of the carrier group and consistently took out the carrier.

There were, apparantly, French ships in the CSG’s ASW screen.

As on the previous thread (a few days back), I figure the French frigate CO is now enjoying the case of Chardonnay given to him by the SSN CO for looking in the wrong direction ...

And that’s why you constantly train and war-game.

Maybe the scenario involved an Iranian launched, sinorussian EMP attack that disabled all the recent electronics.

It's what happens when the Traitor-n-Thief guts the military services! Stand by for the latest "enhancement" of the US Navy!
Photobucket

Armed with a single M2 .50 caliber Browning, this much feared naval vessel carries up to 30 rounds of aluminum piercing ammunition. It is the first in an entirely new naval architecture class -- technically, “clitoral” (not to be confused with “littoral”) -- being pushed on the Pentagon by the defense minded wussies in the Obama Administration as a cost-saving measure. If you look closely, you can see the heavy-duty seat restraint which prevents the pilot/gunner – Kenny “Kamakazi” Kowalski – from leaping from the vessel prior to engaging the enemy. The 12 V trolling motor – which lacks a reverse function -- propels this sophisticated craft forward at a top speed of 4 knots. Reverse travel – at approximately 35 knots -- is achieved by firing the Browning.

The no-bid contract to build 200 of these fearsome warships was to have been awarded to Obama-Soros-Emanuel Shipbuilding and Stormdoor Manufacturing (formerly General Dynamics) and will be administered by trusted Obama associate and former Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel who commented that, at $12 million each, they are a bargain. They will be constructed exclusively at the company’s facility in Kenya with major subcomponent production (rivets and miscellaneous fasteners) at the company’s Harlem and Skokie plants. Delivery is expected to begin in 2024 (or as soon as the subcontractors’ funds are safely in the contractor's Swiss account).

Not really.

“Realistic”.

But, of course, the ROE is likely a HUGE factor in the lopsided outcome.

Personally, glad to see it, though even ‘if’ such a thing has any effect on planning it will take 20 years to take effect...likely long after this is proved true or false in an eventual high-seas scenario...

You gotta lose a few wargames to learn your weaknesses, ROE or not.

This article completely ignores the contributions of gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender sailors to the defense of the aircraft carrier that was sunk!

All the sub has to do is figure out the path of the carrier and wait for it. The only way to find it is active sonar.

They may have “sunk” it with a simulated nuke but I doubt they could do it through conventional means. Once a sub fires its first shot the screening forces know exactly where it is.
