On a recent Monday at Washingtons Willard InterContinental Hotel, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker was schooled on the world by some of the GOPs leading foreign-policy lights. In a two-hour tutorial, seated around a table in the Taft Room sipping sodas and coffee, they used detailed regional maps to lead the likely presidential candidate on a tour of the globes hot spots: Israel and the Middle East, Latin America, Russia and Ukraine.
The reason for Walkers crash course was urgent: He has not impressed many leading Republicans with his grasp of foreign affairs. He drew mockery from members of both parties last month for refusing to talk about foreign policy on a trip to London and then for comparing his experience battling labor protesters to taking on Islamic State terrorists.
In contrast to the compelling and confident way Walker talks about his Wisconsin record, he has been shaky on foreign policy. He has traveled only rarely overseas and showed little interest in world politics in college or as governor. Policy experts and donors who have met with him privately said he lacks depth of knowledge about the international scene and speaks mostly in generalities. At a Club for Growth meeting last weekend, one major donor publicly portrayed Walker as not prepared to talk about global issues.....
Walker hired Michael J. Gallagher, 31, an former Marine captain and Senate Foreign Relations Committee staffer, as his foreign-policy aide. Gallagher has moved to Madison and began work this week.
Gallagher is little known outside of Capitol Hill. The Green Bay, Wis., native is still a PhD student at Georgetown University. He just sent me some draft chapters for his thesis, professor Andrew Bennett, Gallaghers adviser, said this week......

He received his undergraduate degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, earning a certificate in Near Eastern Studies. At Georgetown, he intends to explore the role of intelligence in grand strategy design and presidential decision-making. Mike speaks Arabic and grew up in both Green Bay, WI and Costa Mesa, CA."

“In contrast to the compelling and confident way Walker talks about his Wisconsin record, he has been shaky on foreign policy.”
Coming on the heels of a loaded question which any answer would have been bad, versus someone like Hillary who has a career of failed foreign policy decisions, which means her advisors are failures, I would go with Walker.
We should flood the media with rediculous accusations for them to research.
- Scott Walker pushed me off a meri-go-round in 3rd grade!
- Scott Walker once washed detergent down a storm sewer in his driveway.
- Scott Walker drank beer on a boat during a fishing expedtition. He might have drove the boat too.
- Scott Walker used the term midget once when talking about liberals.
- Scott Walker doesn’t like Kale!
Liking Walker more and more.
Governors aren’t involved in foreign policy.
who is Walkers email provider? Americans demand to know...
Looks like a pretty good coach ;-) And as Gov. Walker said “I woudln’t bet against me”. Me neither.
Scott Walker gets crash course on foreign policy (as if he actually needed it.)
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
No, no, no. Last month the important question was how he got a bald spot on the crown of his head!
I guess they had to go after Walker since there was nothing going on in Hillary world!
Maybe he could stumble along and anger our allies and embolden our enemies like Obozo.
These crony capitalist members gave Walker many ringing endorsements right before his re-election last year. Hmm, quid pro quo? Business as usual?
In addition, Walker has a long history of supporting amnesty, to include endorsing a known hispanic domestic terrorist, one Cesar Chavez, who preyed upon innocent, law-abiding American landowners, by advocating for a state holiday last year celebrating Chavez' birthday.
If Walker wants to show he truly is for all broke, unemployed, underemployed, and employed workers in Wisconsin and, more importantly, in America, he can right now use his power as a Governor to crack down on the Wisconsin Chamber of Amnesty, the dairy farms, the restaurants, the construction companies, and all other companies in Wisconsin that choose to employ illegal invaders over American citizens.
Will he do this? If not, why? He has plenty of time before the Presidential election to proved he is worthy of our Conservative vote!
There you go again!
The Washing Compost forgot to mention the vast foreign policy experience the community organ-grinder had before taking office, funny that.
And they try to poo-poo the background of the man Walker’s hired. Yet he seems very qualified. -— Just not quite a PhD. Don’t ya know.

I am certainly not as close to Walker as you must be. But this claim as a proof of conservative bonafides is a bridge too far. If this were the litmus test, which Governor passes? Arizona? Texas? Mike Pence is a Red Blooded Conservative and I doubt he would spend the political capital on a venture like this. I'm not saying I wouldn't support it. But this is like cleaning a barn by use of fire.
Let me tell you a bit about the hiring process, especially for skilled and unskilled labor. Federal law actually prohibits employers from the following (in addition to state laws):
Hiring an illegal alien
Investigating the legality of an applicant beyond what is allowed (is discriminatory if legallity not proven)
NOT hiring based on legal status suspicions
Requesting additional proof of legal status beyond what is provided in accordance with advertised requirements
I worked for a subcontractor that employed many Latinos. We weeded out many that were not legal. But there were a few that we could not weed out that we were suspicious of. In one instance, we had a laborer who did not speak English (very well). His information said he was born in South America. He had a greencard from Mexico. His name was LARRY. And ALL of his information checked out including federal SS# check. The best HR had was a suspicion. But if anyone asked any questions and we did not hire the person, we could be sued. Scuttlebut was, someone did ask a question and that's why he got hired. Consequently, he was a good worker. And we did have the federal background check program in place to check SS#s.
So, no. I do not agree with casting a huge blanket and shutting down any business you suspect of hiring illegals. Some may be intentionally hiring these folks and paying case. Go get them. But don't punish the otherwise honest businesses trying to follow the rules.
It’s always nice to hear the view points from the Hillary campaign, so thanks for your input.
Liberals didn’t mind at all Obama’s lack of experience in foreign policy when he ran for President.
But for Walker, aw gosh, he’s just an unqualified greenhorn.
Of course the Washington Post insists because he hosted Rudy Guiliani at a fund-raiser, he’s unfit to be President.
