Maybe smuggling drugs to Indonesia is a bad idea.

Hope that Indonesia does not make any deals.

Illegal drugs are the scourge of society.

I agree - and the only positive of a deal is it might make Tony Abbott more popular domestically - but only with people who are unlikely to vote for him.

What's happening is basically a general approach taken by Australian governments since the 1970s when the death penalty was abolished here. Australian governments have seen themselves as having a duty to do what is diplomatically possible to spare them the death penalty. I'm, personally, not in favour of that, but it is something that is kind of expected at this point, and if the Abbott government didn't do it, it would have significant domestic political consequences.

Nine were arrested, and seven have avoided the death penalty primarily because they are seen as having been naive and stupid. These two were ringleaders who knew exactly what they were doing. Indonesia has shown leniency and mercy to the other seven, which I think some people have forgotten here.

What an insult! That’s like saying “don’t treat your syphilis and we’ll give you a case of gonorrhea.”

Actually, Australia would be better off to GIVE Indonesia a couple extra convicted Aussie drug dealers for that firing squad. After all, the major cost in a firing squad is the labor cost, and a few more bullets wouldn’t add that much to the total cost for a couple of extra drug dealers.

Legal drugs are too. IE: Alcohol, prescription narcotics, caffeine, etc.

Possibly they need to print the sign slower ... many drug smugglers cannot read very fast.
