In the U.S.-Israel dispute over Iran's nuclear program, Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel has emerged as an unlikely protagonist -- siding with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rather than President Obama.
In his joint address to Congress, Netanyahu made a point of recognizing the 86-year old Wiesel, who sat in the Speaker's Box with the prime minister's wife, Sara. With us today is Holocaust survivor and Nobel Prize winner Elie Wiesel."
"Elie, your life and work inspires to give meaning to the words, 'never again,'" he added, as lawmakers gave Wiesel a standing ovation. "And I wish I could promise you, Elie, that the lessons of history have been learned. I can only urge the leaders of the world not to repeat the mistakes of the past."
"But I can guarantee you this, the days when the Jewish people remained passive in the face of genocidal enemies, those days are over," Netanyahu concluded, emphatically.
Wiesel, a personal friend of Obama's, has been an outspoken critic of a possible nuclear deal with Iran since 2013.
"Of course it wasn't an easy decision for Professor Wiesel," said Boteach, who has known the Nobel Peace Prize winner for 26 years. "He has deep affection for the president. But he doesn’t feel saying the Jewish people face danger is offensive to the president."
While Obama first heard Wiesel as a college student, they got to know each other during a 2009 memorial at the Buchenwald concentration camp where the president gave him the last word. They have dined together on occasion, and Wiesel told Israel's Haaretz newspaper more than two years ago that the two planned to collaborate on a book after the 2012 election.

Bibi is a Superior Statesman and knows how to "work" Obama.
When Bibi introduced him, everybody stood up and gave Elie a standing ovation. Except Nancy Pelosi. She also didn’t stand when Bibi asked Iran to stop threatening to destroy Israel. Does anyone know if she didn’t stand because she wasn’t allowed or that she was protesting? Because a guy who was sitting left to Boehner didn’t stand as well. Anyone know who he was? Everyone stood except those two. Even Harry Reid, Debby Wasserman Schultz and Charles Rangle stood, all except Pelosi and this other guy. The reason I’m asking is I’m editing together all the times she didn’t stand and I’m putting it on Youtube.
I think this info shows the superior intelligence of Bibi.
Looks like he is working the left leaning Jewish people-this show of support for Bibi by Elie Wiesel is one of the reasons Obama was so furious.
Pelosi was probably trying to control the Demonrats but they didn’t follow her lead. Not sure who the guy was.
Very subtle. I knew that Netanyahu was extremely intelligent, but this is a side of him I hadn’t seen before.
She is completely out of her mind. You would think she would have at least stood for Elie Wiesel, but no.
I suppose a liberal is a liberal until the knife is at his throat. Glad Elie woke up - although I sincerely doubt it.
More lies from the WaPo. Wiesel sides with PM Netanyahu because he knows that obama and his ties to the MB, AQ, IS and Iran represents the second Holocaust.
