A South Florida man charged with growing marijuana he claims he needs for a medical condition was found not guilty Monday.
Jesse Teplicki, 50, had been charged with manufacturing cannabis and was facing up to five years behind bars.
"This case is about medical marijuana and for the hundreds of thousands of patients who can use this medicine as an alternative," Teplicki said.
It took jurors just 30 minutes to return the verdict.

He had 46 marijuana plants...yeah right it was all for his personal use!!
(1) All things considered, marijuana consumption is really not a good thing, it seems to me; and especially so among young people, whose brains and personalities are not yet entirely formed.
(2) Usually, "medical" marijuana usage is merely a stalking horse for recreational marijuana usage. And I would much prefer candor to a more disingenuous approach.
(3) Nonetheless, I really do not think that laws against marijuana usage--including recreational usage--are wise and prudent. That is because laws that are simply unenforceable (or enforceable only in a most capricious manner) tend to breed contempt for the law, in general. And that is not a good thing.

Any law is an attempt to control people regardless of what it is about.

I don’t rightly know. I think you’d have to see a critical mass of similar cases to reach that point. Facing a judge rather than a jury might likely produce a different outcome.
Agree. Which is why future defendants would elect to be tried by a jury of their peers.
My guess is FL prosecutors will more or less throw in the towel on medical marijuana in light of this verdict.

Using marijuana is, with extremely rare medical exceptions, harmful and stupid. However, the laws against that drug have been ineffective, leading to harmful and stupid actions with long-term legal consequences. I’ll happily trade the ability to enforce a weak law for a broader awareness of jury nullification. I’d like to see far more jury nullification in this country, and for that reason this verdict is a step in the right direction overall.

Garden...what garden..my veggies come from the freezer section in the grocery store! And I get 5 small bags...46 bags of veggies would mean I’m selling some.
