Georgia Judge Jails Muslim Woman For Wearing Headscarf To Court Two women barred from entering courtroom in recent days
Daniel Nasaw in Washington
A city judge in Georgia has in the past eight days barred two Muslim women wearing Islamic headscarves from entering his courtroom, jailing one, and prompting an inquiry from the civil rights office at the US department of justice.
Judge Keith Rollins of Douglasville, Georgia, yesterday ordered Lisa Valentine, 41, to jail after she refused to remove her scarf before entering the courtroom, citing rules governing appropriate dress. Last week, Sabreen Abdulrahmaan was forced to leave Rollins's court before her son's probation hearing because she would not remove her scarf.
"It's a religious right," Valentine said. "It's our constitutional right that we can have our religious practices, no matter if it's a courtroom or not. He's supposed to be handing out justice, not taking away civil rights."
Valentine said she sought to accompany her nephew to a traffic hearing yesterday but was told by a court security officer that she could not enter the courtroom with her headscarf on. She said she refused to remove it and turned to leave, saying, "This is bullshit".

If it was a headscarf and not covering her face, it's ridiculous to ask her to remove her covering ...
If it was a Mennonite women or Amish women with a head covering on, would the same standard be applied..
I somehow doubt it...
She wasn't part of the case...just a mother...
Are any of these head coverings required by their religion...
Well, maybe a Red Sox fan might think so...: )
A judge in Ft. Lauderdale jailed a female attorney for wearing culottes in his courtroom some years ago.
Yup,I've heard that call on youtube. His tone varied from nervous to despondent to pleading to angry. One thing that occurred to me when listening to this call...and others...is how much did the people trapped in the towers know about what happened and the scale of,and the difficulties of,the rescue operations.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if at least some of the trapped people didn't have the first clue what was going on...not that knowing would have made it any easier for them.
“She said she refused to remove it and turned to leave, saying, “This is bullshit”.
No her and her criminal wannabe son living in Georgia is BS. They are moving in here like cockroaches. Its all bad.
“If this judge can do this, it will be used against Christians very soon.”
No it won’t. This is the bible belt. We just got Sunday liquor sales last year. This is Christian central.
If you look at this photo, people are on top of each other in the windows in the same way no doubt pushing people out and to their deaths..That could have been me...
I often wondered what my parents, brother, and wife would have thought if I died knowing that only 7 years later Democrats would elect a radical Muslim as President who wholeheartedly supports the same pieces of rat filth responsible for 911. I can't even begin to imagine the hell these victims families are going through with this Obama, just that he would show more respect towards Bin-Laden than the victims families would be enough to drive me over the edge. That he would "bury him at sea in accordance with Islamic law" and refuse to show ANY evidence of his death to bring even an ounce of closure to the victims families is about as low as it gets.
Try telling that to most judges.
I’ll bet she does file a civil rights case and she’ll have a pretty good chance of scoring some tax payer dollars.
She never even made it into the courtroom wearing the head scarf until the bailiff handcuffed her at the metal detector for saying the rule was bullshit and hauled her into see the judge.
She’s got a case.
Not if *I'm* on the jury she doesn't!
Don’t most of the states in the bible belt have gay marriage, and it starts in Georgia in a month or two?
We do not currently allow gay marriage in Georgia but I hear they are coming for us next.
