Wow - lots of confusion about what's going on today.
The House just put a great wedge between Obama and congressional Democrats, and so many of you don't see it.
If Democrats don't go along with the house, they give up grants that have already been appropriated for their home districts - the 3 week CR, by law, forbids any grant money from being granted, and the clock is running. If it doesn't get used this year, it's lost.
The Constitution is working as it should - congress is not allowing money for DHS, other than emergency opperations.
The RATs now need to choose, are they with Obama and NO Grants for their home districts, or will the come to their senses and go along with the House.
I would love to have Boehner's poker hand.
boehner is dealt 4 Aces but trades them in for junk. Then he bluffs like he has 4 Aces and goes all in.
I don’t trust Boehner.
Boehner is prone to folding when he has a winning hand; maybe this time he will play through, but I wouldn’t put any money on it, very long odds.
Voting now on whether to go to disagree with the Senate’s ‘clean’ DHS bill and request a conference; vote on CR to come later.
Very slow vote.
There’s no hope for Boehner.
He plays the same part each and every time. He holds out for conservatives, he acts like he is reflecting their interests, then he puts the kibosh to their positions after he has the votes from other members he put the squeeze on. He always pleads there was no other real choice.
He’s weak and incompetent.
The way I look at it is in a football game, if the quarterback keeps fumbling, throwing interceptions, getting sacked, then it’s time to call him what he is: weak and incompetent.
Boehner was a bar tender, fine. But where he is now is way out of his league. He has no innate talent for the position he is in. His only qualification for ascending to Speaker was when a 2010 freshman class of Tea Party conservatives looked at him as a quiet ‘friendly’ member that had been around when Gingrich ran the show. He was elected as a default because there was no one else.
And now he’s facing WWIII, Hispanic invasion by more than 10 million new democrat voting third world aliens, a Sharia beachhead inside the USA, Executive Overreach all over the map, government takeover of the internet, Continuing Resolutions as far as the eye can see and replacing sound budgeting and on an on. He has abdicated all power of the House, especially the Power of the Purse. His only initiative was to sue Obama for changing the Obamacare law at whim and that has gone nowhere.
Boehner is like a Captain of a ship that keeps ordering the helm to steer in circles. He doesn’t know what he’s doing and he doesn’t know where he’s going.
Sorry, but he’s had all the chances to show his mettle. He’s got nothing. There’s no lion in him. He’s just a lazy dog that barks once in a blue moon, and that’s it.
The grant money can’t be spent until a final bill is passed. The grant money must be spent by Sept 30,2015. The CR allows money ONLY at 2014 levels - if Obama wants to spend some of the money on his NEW immigration initative, he has to take it away from another Dept.
The RATs are now afraid they won’t get the money they fought to get for FY15 or Obama will steal it from current levels.
One small point to clarify for those not all wrapped up in the fine points of CRs — but the CR rule noted by 11th VA above is the rule for all CR’s, not just this one. Under a CR no new starts (spending on new programs) can occur and spending for all offices/programs is limited to the levels appropriated in the previous FY.
Your logic doesn’t pass muster. The CR is only for 3 weeks. That means another round of this CR BS comes up in March and that’s a long way from September 30.
Boehner’s not fooling anyone here. He’s only holding out to see is the federal injunction is stayed or not. If it’s stayed, he funds DHS. If it’s not, then he gets drunk and finds an excuse to do another BS round of short-term CR.
Thank you both.
BTW the request for conference passed without any Dem votes.
(Indicating to me that conservatives have been assured that there won’t be a surrender in conference). But I believe Reid has indicated that he won’t allow a conference anyway.
BTW, DHS way given 1 Billion more for DHS for 2015 - that’s a lot of new fire engines in blue states
“Boehner-Haters”
I’m used to seeing that rhetorical device, but “haters” is preceded by “Obama” and the tactic is a favorite of Democrats.
Hate is a strong word. I hate dishonest argument.
We conservatives *distrust* Boehner for the same reason we don’t trust McConnell or McCain: because they have given conservatives plenty of cause to not trust them.
But go ahead and *hate* conservatives, if you must.
Boehner needs conservative votes to pass the CR. The delay makes it obvious he hasn’t got them. So the conservatives are demanding something and he’s in a spot where he has to give them something- something he doesn’t want to give them.
So Boehner may not be able to play his usual knife-in-the-back role.
Admittedly that’s hard to imagine LOL!
Sorry, I don’t hate myself ... :-) ...
More BULL$HIT from Bonehead.
I'm with you.
Wait till Happy Hour and Boehner will fold like a house of cards, as he always does, so he can be the first one at the bar.
If I was face to face with that puke, I would tell him thus:
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR YOUR PUSHING MORE THAN ONE TRILLION DOLLARS IN FUNDING STUFFED WITH CRONY PORK LAID OUT IN MORE THAN 16OO PAGES OF LEGISLATION WITH ONLY TWO DAYS GIVEN FOR REVIEW ....
IN A LAME-DUCK CONGRESS!
I know why he did it. Because he knew he wouldn’t be able to stuff and ram through the Crony Pork when the New Congress would be seated. He didn’t want the stress of having to fight the nation’s battles as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
This *ss looks at victory as gaining another opportunity to spend time in the tanning salon with his favorite Scotch. And that’s the truth. He can’t handle the heat in the kitchen!
- this should be the template going forward, now that we have both Houses of congress. If the RATs don't go along with our spending levels, just do a CR and keep spending at last year's level - elections have consequences
Wow, really great move by Boner all right.
Because the deems in the House would never, ever give up one year of grants for a lifetime of 10,000,000 new democrat voters.
I am hoping this is all a Kabuki dance and the House puts the anti amnesty stuff back into this
The Senate would then pass it with a simple majority or as you think squeeze the Dems into supporting it
then will Obama veto it? I am hoping a strategy is involved
Nobody’s buying that.
