Nobody told him that the president was not duly informed of his invitation, and he is sorry the whole thing went the way it did. Just say you didn’t know this thing was carried out in the dark. That’s if you were not party to this subterfuge. If, Mr. Prime Minister, you knew from the outset that this was all a way to blindside the president and therefore humiliate him, well that’s the problem, isn’t it.”

This seems to have started with Israeli President Rivlin being stonewalled by the White House in his request to visit Washington while he was here to visit the UN.
Boehner invited Netanyahu to speak to a joint session of the new Congress, a repeat of the 2011 invitation to Bibi after the 2010 midterms. Bibi notified the White House per usual, but it wasn’t as obsequious as usual due to the Rivlin snub.
Bibi doesn’t believe he can afford to look like a White House poodle with an election at hand.
From there, the Jew-hate took over.

Best answer I have heard yet. Boehner ought to ask Obama if he is willing to give Congress authority to veto visits to the WH by the Muslim Brotherhood.

I think its simply that they backed themselves into a corner. They went on the record saying they would boycott, betting that the GOP or Netanyahu would back down.
So far, the show is on. They either cave and piss off their anti-Semitic base or they boycott and look pro-Palestinian anti-Israel to the world (and most importantly Jewish American voters.)
They're in a lose-lose, unless they can scream loud enough to scare the GOP into disinviting Netanyahu and turn the Republican's minor victory into a colossal defeat. That is still a great possibility so the Dems keep screaming.
