TORONTO - The Shopsys Deli chain has assigned a new name to a featured sandwich which was called the Bill Cosby for years.
The corned beef sandwich had been named after the embattled comedian for several years before the current owners bought the restaurants, said Gavin Quinn, president of the Irish Embassy Group.
The company bought Shopsys around eight years ago with the sandwich already on the menu.
I dont even think people really associate it with the celebrity, Quinn said. They know it more as a food item.
A number of women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them. None of the allegations have been tested in court and Cosby faces no criminal charges.
In light of all the allegations brought forward, we thought it was prudent to rename it, said Quinn.
As of Monday, the $15 sandwich made of hot corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese and rye bread was still listed on the menu as the Bill Cosby at a downtown location of Shopsys Deli. By Wednesday, a revamped menu at the same location listed the item as the Home Run.
The restaurant is taking the menu in a more sports-themed direction, said Quinn, who added, Its bit of a process changing all the menus, takes a bit of time.
Is a Bill Cosby sandwich anything like a Ted Kennedy sandwich?
Maybe he’ll get a drink named after him. Perhaps “The Cosby” could have Jagermeister, Nyquil, and Valium.
Interesting, put some hot sauce on it and call it the OJ throat cut with Ferguson fire.
Kennedy needed Dodd for that.....Cosby only needs his little pill.
I’ll take the “Bill Cosby” sandwich, hold the mayo, hold the Roofie.
15$ for a sandwich?? I don’t care what they name it - I’m not buying it... sheesh..
Renamed the “Home Run”...yes, that doesn’t have any sexual connotation.

Mrs. JohnnyP and I tell each other “We like eating at John and Shirley’s.”
I’d be afraid of the type of sauce put on it.
Fresh chicken topped with stinky aged cheese and Rohypnol mayo?
“By Wednesday, a revamped menu at the same location listed the item as the Home Run. “
Somehow I don’t think that’s good either, considering what “home run” is slang for...
