My Scott Walker Column (And A Response To Ed Morrissey)
DC - Daily Caller ^ | February 24, 2015 | Matt K. Lewis, Senior Contributor

Posted on 02/26/2015 1:16:50 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

".......More to the point, I take issue with his suggestion that I think “Republicans had better work with the media.” It is true that I don’t believe the media are inherently evil or “out to get you.” But I also think — and this is important for candidates to know — that the press are not your friends. Ed’s framing, I think, implies I support what might be thought of as collaboration or appeasement. But what Walker did was (inadvertently) work with the media — in the sense that he played right into their hands. He made this an irresistible story — so irresistible that we’re still talking about it today.

Conversely, what I am suggesting is that conservative candidates should learn how to communicate their message despite media bias. In other words, to overcome them. And part of that requires depriving their adversaries of the very types of stories that Walker has now generated. To paraphrase Nixon, Walker gave them a knife, and they twisted it with glee.

What I’m suggesting is that effective candidates shouldn’t give them the knife.

What is more, since it’s unrealistic to think the political or media landscape will miraculously improve between now and 2016, is seems to me that conservatives ought to take a candidate’s ability to handle hostile questions into consideration when selecting a nominee. The conservative who is eager to defeat Hillary Clinton in 2016 should not be so eager to dismiss Walker’s failures — or blame them on the media. I’m not suggesting this is a deal-breaker for Walker, but rather, that he won’t likely improve if he is led to believe that he responded not just adequately, but heroically."....

Scott Walker "rebuffed" the "gotcha" brigade. Now, when this comes up again, he can say, "There you go again!"

Matt K. Lewis needs to read this column and take its advice to heart - you can't "handle" the Left, you must fight them: ..The media's ideological ritual of denunciation and purge ....In principle, there is no point at which the purge can stop — not until the entire discourse space has been purged, and people throughout it have been set eternally on edge to denounce any reappearance of the expurgated thoughts.....

He also needs to brush up on Gov. Scott Walker.

2-26-2015: Christie and Walker take different paths on union issues

....For now, it's Walker's approach that appears to have the most immediate chance of success. The rallies against the right-to-work legislation in Wisconsin have failed to match those of 2011, and some union members even concede that their efforts are a lost cause.

"You fight the good fight against Walker and he beats you," said Seth Markgraf, a 34-year-old construction worker from Arlington, Wisconsin. "They beat us in the recall and they beat us in another general election. It's just apathy. How do we beat Scott Walker?"

NPR - 2-26-2014: Gov. Scott Walker Goes Head-To-Head With Labor Over Right-To-Work ".....Patrick Semmens, a spokesman for the National Right to Work Committee, says this is about fairness.

"We think that every worker should be able to join a union and pay dues to a union, but no one should be forced, so on those merits alone, we think it's worth passing right-to-work,"

.... "And, you know, certainly in the Midwest, they're looking for good jobs and right-to-work has a good track record for that," he says.

But many academics dispute those claims, which come from groups that have a dog in the fight....."

Reagan was able to handle the media. He spoke directly to the people. With today's "new media" it should be far easier for Walker (or Cruz).

Release YouTube videos, Set up web sites, work with conservative bloggers, social media. Network Television is no longer the gatekeeper.

The MSM still has power, but they no longer have the ability to silence the opposition.

The one thing Obama does intelligently is manage the media. If he’s the smartest man in the room in any facet its his manipulation of image. We can mock all we want and believe me i’m up there with the loudest when it comes to stupid stuff like those silly interviews with ‘internet personalities’ but he has always controlled the environment about him. He made a few mistakes in his initial campaign but since then he has controlled access and limited opportunities for being forced into making off the cuff statements like Walker did.
All Walker had to say was Christianity is in a mans heart. So easy when looking back.

Ummm, that will all change soon, as of 2/26/15 w/ the FCC rulling, just in time to throttle our voices so all we hear is Cankels Voice...

“All Walker had to say was, “Christianity is in a mans heart”. So easy when looking back.”...........

That assumes that the “man” has a heart. Walker answered the question direct and to the point with his answer, “I do not know”. To me that is not deflecting the question and not a comment from a “mind reader”. We can only ASSUME that odumbo has Christianity in his heart but we don’t know for certain. In truth, do you know what is in MY heart? I think not.

It's quite a different thing to control a lap dog than a snarling pitbull.

So the advice of this column is, do anything BUT TELL THE TRUTH. Yep, that’s winning politics in the age of Clinton-Obama.

My response to the leftist Chicago Tribune writer Rex Huppke
Hi Rex,

The unholy alliance of the democrat Party, Hollywood, and the mainstream media have conspired over the recent past to choose the Republican candidates that give the Dems the best chance of winning. They have also infiltrated the Republican party with what we call RINO’s. George Stephanopoulos famous Clinton but boy posed a question about birth control in the last election that was poll tested by Democrats to help their phony “war on women”. Scott Walker is not going to play your game. I hope to see him tell that old commie bitch Bob Schieffer to stick it where the sun don’t shine and tell that worthless chimp in a suit; Chuck Todd to go screw himself. In the meantime, go f**k yourself.

Sincerely

Nonsense.

They simply have found someone who can use his bully pulpit to spread their message.

Obama can't even manage to go to the bathroom alone, let alone manage the press.

"It is true that I don’t believe the media are inherently evil or “out to get you.”"

The other of this statement deems himself qualified to advise GOP candidates how to handle the media.

I deem the author delusional. No wonder his "advice" sucks ie 'work with the media on building their narrative' or something.

The media hates Republicans, they are out to get them and they are inherently evil for the lies, obfuscation, bias and drivel. Their constitutional job is to help create an informed electorate, so that voters can make the decisions, as the voters, remember 'We the People', are the sovereign.

However, the media sees their role as creating an indoctrinated electorate, so that voters make the correct decisions (as decided by the high priests of Leftism).

Can you be a nice guy while doing this? Sure. That doesn't change the fact that you are a media lying sack of manure, throwing poison into the wells of information, misleading the voters, smearing opponents of your mission and aiding in the destruction of this country and destroying freedom and liberty.

We're supposed to work with these nice guys. Yeah, right!

Matt Lewis, wake up. Have the courage to face the truth.

i’m not making any assumptions. the answer would be politically correct which is a phrase i despise but in this case is exactly whats being looked for. Then we wouldn’t have 6000 articles and commenters calling for his head.

The Left is scared to death of Scott. They will twist things almost as far as some of his detractors her manage to do in order to hurt him.
