7 GOP governors elect not to fight Obama's amnesty

More than two dozen states have joined the Texas lawsuit opposing President Obama’s executive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, but more eye-opening is the list of Republican governors whose names still do not appear on the suit.

The seven Republicans who have thus far elected not to join the suit aimed at reining in Obama are Chris Christie of New Jersey, Terry Branstad of Iowa, Larry Hogan of Maryland, Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Matthew Mead of Wyoming, Charlie Baker of Massachusetts and Bruce Rauner of Illinois.

Five of those seven states – Maryland, Iowa, New Mexico, Massachusetts and Illinois – are actually on record in favor of Obama’s executive amnesty plan. In each of those states, the Democrat attorney general has signed a friend-of-the-court brief expressing support for Obama’s executive action to grant amnesty to up to 5 million illegal immigrants. The governors of these five states have remained silent and allowed their AGs to take the lead.

The other two states – New Jersey and Wyoming – have neither a governor nor an attorney general taking a position on the lawsuit that challenges the president’s authority to change immigration law.

Maine’s Gov. Paul LePage said Obama’s action isn’t fair to legal immigrants and that he will fight efforts by the administration to implement the law in his state

“It took us nearly 11 years,” LePage said of an effort to help a Jamaican family get a visa when they followed legal immigration law. “Why should everybody just get one tomorrow?”

“Asked if he would embrace greater legal standing for immigrants in Maine, such as worker permits, after Mr. Obama issues his measure, Mr. LePage swatted away the idea as ‘unacceptable,'” Barbaro added.

“I am fighting it, not helping it,” LePage said of Obama’s executive order.

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

I do remember well when he raised the sales tax from 4% to 5%. (Or, was it 3% to 4%?)

Anyway, he's BransTAX to me from now on. Him and his (token female) LtGov.

Yep, for a years now I've been saying:

Given that Conservatives and (small L) libertarians are the real RINOs now that the Republican Party has moved so far left, I propose a new acronym for the liberals and squishes that run the Party now… Democrats In All But Label Only.

Or DIABLOs for short.

There is overwhelming support for a requirement to show photo ID at the polls as well. The problem here is the same as on the national level: so called ‘republicans’ are just an extension of the democrat party.

I cannot express enough how disappointed I am with Susana. I regret helping her get into her first term in office. Her supporting of Obama in any way shape or form (amnesty) puts her clearly in the enemy’s camp.
