More than two dozen states have joined the Texas lawsuit opposing President Obama’s executive amnesty for millions of illegal aliens, but more eye-opening is the list of Republican governors whose names still do not appear on the suit.
The seven Republicans who have thus far elected not to join the suit aimed at reining in Obama are Chris Christie of New Jersey, Terry Branstad of Iowa, Larry Hogan of Maryland, Susana Martinez of New Mexico, Matthew Mead of Wyoming, Charlie Baker of Massachusetts and Bruce Rauner of Illinois.
Five of those seven states – Maryland, Iowa, New Mexico, Massachusetts and Illinois – are actually on record in favor of Obama’s executive amnesty plan. In each of those states, the Democrat attorney general has signed a friend-of-the-court brief expressing support for Obama’s executive action to grant amnesty to up to 5 million illegal immigrants. The governors of these five states have remained silent and allowed their AGs to take the lead.
The other two states – New Jersey and Wyoming – have neither a governor nor an attorney general taking a position on the lawsuit that challenges the president’s authority to change immigration law.

No surprises there.
Gov. Rauner of Illinois hasn't been "silent" on this issue. He went on record to say he SUPPORTS Obama's amnesty plan and that it's a "good first step" but doesn't go far ENOUGH for RINO Rauner's tastes.
It might be a surprise to some FReepers who were championing Martinez for VP. Nope - no way.
Actually there was an article someone posted here in the last few days about undoing a drivers license law in NM. It has overwhelming support across the state so i am somewhat surprised by Martinez.

Prior to Obama's second term when I would read a headline like this my immediate reaction would be "well they are RINOs."
These last few years it finally sunk in that "no, THEY are not RINOs. They are what the Republicans are now. I am the RINO."
Christie, Hogan, Baker and Rauner I do not think are really Republican. Christie is anti-union and liberal about everything else, right? Hogan and Baker put an R on their name and somehow won...perhaps because their Demon Rat predecessors were such failures. And Rauner, IIRC, donated to Obama—then for some reason decided to make a run as a Republican because he didn’t win the Demon Rat beauty contest.
Martinez spoke at the last RNC...stayed very much away from social issues and talked only about money. So there you go.
Don’t know much about Branstad and Mead.
States are not all alike and states’ legal actions against the Feds isn’t so straightforward. The Attorney General of Iowa is a separate elected political office. The Republican governor committing the state to an action that the Dem leftist AG opposes would probably do the case more harm than good.

Christie, Hogan, Martinez, Baker, and Rauner, only qualify as republicans because they are slightly left of center in extreme left-wing states. They are obviously more concerned about getting re-elected than they about the constitution, separation of powers, upholding the law, etc. Branstad represents the Iowa agri-industry which is built on a business model that is dependent upon government handouts and cheap illegal labor. What's Meads excuse?
New Mexico is a western tutti fruity state with liberals and the indigenous living an altered state(of mind).

The Gov in ILL , MD ,and Mass just git ekected and inherited that mess from previous adem enacted legislation.
They can not immediately dismantle without a Gop AG to help.
I heard in a conference call
The new Gov in ILL hates it and has put the brakes on all the funding the state will owe back to the feds and told the Ill Hosp Assoc to go to hell over there role .
Did Paul LePage fighting Obama.. I hope so. LePage is a great northeastern Republican governor
