Time to Give Constitutional Carry a Jolt in Texas!
Gun Owners of America/gunowners.org ^ | February 20, 2015 | Gun Owners of America

Earlier, we alerted you to HB 195, a “constitutional carry” bill that allows all law-abiding citizens in the state to carry as a matter of right -- without having to submit to any obnoxious background checks or waiting periods.

The bill is stuck in committee, as is its Senate counterpart, SB 342.

But the beauty of HB 195/SB 342 is that they would actually accomplish BOTH objectives -- establishing constitutional carry for BOTH open and concealed carry.

ACTION:

(1) Urge your state Representative and Senator to cosponsor and support HB 195 and SB 342. By clicking on the link here, the proper legislators will be automatically selected, and you can send a pre-written letter to them.

(2) Call Senator Joan Huffman’s office at 512-463-0117 and ask her to bring up SB 342. Sen. Huffman is the Committee Chairman of the State Affairs Committee. You can email her at joan.huffman@senate.state.tx.us

I definitely want the option, especially of open carry without a license. Having the CHL option is better than not having it, but why should I have to have a state license for a God given right?

Make that a donation to FR, and I'll match your $100 bill.

Even with Strauss, there is still a possibility of getting Constitutional Carry passed. But not with a defeatist attitude like yours.

People like you are the problem. You have already given up and know the outcome, before the fight ever really starts.

>>People like you are the problem<<

Nice! Try not to take it so personal.

I am not the problem Johnny, moderate republicans and democrats are the problem. If I had my way, everybody that desired would be sportin a hogleg.

Just a realist, thats all. Besides, you can think those dumb @$$e$ in around the Dallas area for single handily killing any chance of constitutional carry.

By the way, if constitutional carry passes this session, I will donate that $100 to FR....are you willing to make the same statement?

Either way, I'll make a $100US donation to FR on this issue.

But yes, you are the problem, and it's not personal, it's just practical.

Someone in Austin to buttonhole politicians could help a lot. I can't get to Austin with treatments going on, but I know politicians don't like getting buttonholed.

I'm just being a realist that has worked hard to get Dewhurst defeated and sent back to his ranch.

It doesn't happen without a lot of positive attitude, and willingness to not give up the fight before the fight happens.

Well, good luck stormin the castle there Johnny. Don't be too disappointed though.

Hey, look at it this way, you still have the right to carry. Then simply, get over it. There are far MORE important issues to focus on.

I heard that a lot when Dewhurst was still in office. It took real work to get rid of him.

It will take real work, and not keyboard warrioring to get Constitutional Carry.

I'll fight this fight, even though I'm not likely to benefit from it personally.

If I could get to Austin, you bet I'd be storming the castle in a big way. It wouldn't be the first time.

“because that nutball Stauss is at the helm”

Yep, he is. And you described him correctly. May that soon change and may Constitutional Carry eventually be the law in Texas.

Let’s just quit trying then, give up, turn in our weapons, quit working, period, and sign up for free food, free housing, free phones, free health care.

You say this on your about page: “Support our brave men and woman in uniform.” Your page has a lot of patriotic wording on it, but they are just words if you are not willing to fight for your rights. Men/women in uniform fight in their way and WE must fight in our way.

Gov. Greg Abbott is for open carry but he can’t do it by himself. WE will contact our legislators – you evidently won’t. Hopefully we get open carry and may have to go back for constitutional carry. LBJ, one of our Texas presidents, said when he was in the US Senate, get what you can the first time and go back later to get the rest.

Your attitude is a defeatist one. Not very Texan.

I'd be better if Strauss was gone...

He is literally making our whole state sick. That man is a boulder standing in the way of Texans' freedoms.

It's not just the money. The state is requiring you to obtain a LICENSE to exercise one of your God given, natural rights.

Exactly. Although the cost is low enough that anyone who can afford a serviceable handgun can afford a few dollars a year for the permit, it galls me that I have to, in essence, buy permission to merely exercise a Constitutionally protected right.

I know, I know, it's not a major issue compared to some of the other outrages we're routinely hit with, but it all adds up into one major league outrage.

Again, you can thank the folks up in Tarrent co. for single handily defeating constitutional carry with their ding dong antics up in the state house.

Gotta be smarter than this...just gotta use your noggin.

I am all for constitutional carry, but reading the tea leaves up in Austin, it just doesn't have the backing. It's just a reality.

Ok...so call me a quitter, a whatever. Stick and stones and all that stuff, but WE have the right to carry. WE are going to have open carry. It will this time around be permitted....so what? Are y'all so against the baby steps toward constitutional carry? Good grief.

Know when to count your blessings. From “permitted” concealed carry to “permitted” open carry....that's freakin HUGE y'all.

Lemmie ask a qwershun. Would you guyz be satisfied if the legislature passed permitted carry? If not, why?

Sounds like something my Ex-wife would say. All or nothing. Don't get what’cha want, torch the whole damn town. Give me a break.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with patriotism. It has everything to do with meticulous, metered steps toward your goal....just like the liberals do.

Try to take to big a bite, and often times folks will recoil and withdraw from the issue. These politicians are concerned for one thing and one thing only...their seat/power. They attempt to take too big a bite and they fear losing that seat.

So...when in Rome! Take what you can get. Then the next step after we have open carry is go a lil further and fight to remove the permitted requirement.

The second amendment is my permit. It is people like you that don't fight for rights. That are satisfied with whatever the government gives you.

What exactly did the Tarrant County folks do? What is your complaint against them?

This ain't Rome. And the Constitution is pretty clear on what our rights are. If you are happy with whatever the government gives you, may the chains of slavery rest easy on you. I don't intend to put up with it. I want what the Constitution says, nothing less.

The REALITY is that the question is still open, and can get backing if people fight for it. But not if they give up.

Reality is that you back our rights as listed in the Constitution, or you support big government. That's reality.

>>the Constitution is pretty clear on what our rights are.<<

I understand. I believe you are a patriotic American fighting for our rights and I honor you for that. Listen, we are on the same side. I am a Texan and no where else in this nation is the 2nd amendment so important.

As a native Texan, I want to see our constitutional rights restored/protected. This nation is under assault. We are losing our rights, freedoms daily. You are right to step up to this fight. Not trying to demean, marginalize or throw cold water.

Our legislature has about 90 days left in session to get business done. If an open carry bill is out there and likely to pass, by muddying the waters and sending everything back into committee, there is a good chance, I mean a real good chance the constitutional carry effort could squash the open carry bill that is likely to sail through. This is my main concern.

We've gone on and on. I wish y'all luck. I for one am throwing my support behind the most likely passage.

Would you be happy with permitted open carry if constitutional carry effort looks bleak? Will you throw your support behind the permitted open carry?

The permit process is clearly unconstitutional.

I will fight for Constitutional Carry only.

You are throwing cold water, because 90 days is plenty of time to raise support for Constitutional Carry.

You have chosen to give up before the fight is truly engaged.

That is reality. Not your fake reality of giving up before the fight is joined, like so many republicans.

Do what you want. If you are fighting for an unconstitutional process, I don't support you or what you do.

So are you able/qualified to apply and become approved for a license to carry a concealed handgun in the State of Texas? Are you a CHL holder presently?

What does that have to do with the Constitutional question? Anyone that can do Constitutional Carry is qualified to get a permit.

You avoid the question because you support unconstitutional permitting process. Like a good republican, but not a conservative.

Do you own a television? Do you watch TV new?

Same kind of BS question.
