NRO: Scott Walker approved Milwaukee resolution demanding comprehensive immigration reform.

A neat scoop by Andrew Johnson, although I’m more interested in grassroots reaction to it than I am in the story itself.

“Governor Walker does not support amnesty,” the governor’s spokesman, Tom Evenson, tells National Review Online. Evenson says the 2002 resolution was “stripped of references to amnesty before passage” and, in fact, reinforces the governor’s view that illegal immigrants should face penalties before they are granted citizenship. The resolution, viewable here, did not mention or spell out such penalties, and expressed support for “comprehensive immigration reform” that would have provided “greater opportunity for undocumented working immigrants to obtain legal residency in the United States.”

After nearly a decade in the statehouse, Walker became the executive of liberal-leaning Milwaukee County after winning a special election in April 2002. The county board had been working on the immigration-reform resolution for two years and it came before Walker in May 2002, shortly after he came to office. According to an official record of the proceedings, it explained the reasons for the board’s support, including the contributions of immigrants to the county’s economy, their vulnerability to exploitation, and the fact that Milwaukee had played host to the National Council of La Raza’s 2001 convention, where the plight of illegal immigrants had been discussed…

Former county supervisor Dan Diliberti, who authored the resolution, says it was a symbolic statement of support for a policy of amnesty and comprehensive immigration reform. He recalls meeting with Walker to discuss the matter. “He was definitely for it,” Diliberti tells National Review Online in a phone interview.

Living in Ozaukee County you probably don’t see many illegals but if you venture to Washington, FonDuLac, Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha or any other county I’m sure you would here of plenty. Even Madison. What does Walker say about this.

No matter who the 2016 nominee is, he will fail to pass the hallowed Purity Test.

He will have said something, or done something, or will be reported to have possibly said or done something, that will offend the sensibilities of our Purists, who will denounce the nominee and stay home.

And then we will be in Hillary Hell.

I read this real closely.

He does not support amnesty. Good.

Next the spokesman says illegal immigrants should face penalties before they are granted citizenship.

What happened to going to the back of the line?

["Going to the back of the line" has been the talking point of all amnesty supporting politicians until recently. That seemed to shut up a lot of the dessenters, but it was all hot air. See below why:]

That is the only "penalty" that would be fair to all those who applied legally and have been waiting in their home countries for years as the red tape slowly churns. Go to the back of the line can only mean one thing...go back to your country and wait there and don't give us that line "what about my family, you want to break it up" TAKE YOUR FAMILY WITH YOU IF YOU VALUE YOUR FAMILY!

We have come way past the real solution...enforce the laws!

At least two states have laws that do not allow any state or federal money, food stamps, schooling, welfare, medical care, etc, etc except for United States Citizens and illegal criminal insurgent criminal invading colonists have fled those states [self deportation, which tears a big hole in the standard "we can't bus 10 million (very low 'estimate') people to Mexico] for Mexico and other United States that will pander to non citizens with all of those goodies.

California voters also voted in the same thing, Prop 187 years ago.

One liberal judge said it was un constitutional and it was stopped.

The GOP did NOTHING about it, and the Judge had NO right to make that decision.

He doesn’t support amnesty the same as McCain, Flake, Grahamnesty, Bush, Bush II, Bush III, Bush IV (George P) don’t support amnesty.

Your post has the answer. The Fraudulently Documented Foreigners go home and apply. If they do we won’t hold all their previous transgressions against them. If we have to deport them, bar them for life.

But first, BUILD THE DANG FENCE!

It’s funny that insisting on the rule of law is considered a purity test. I consider it a minimum requirement.

Uphold the rule of law is part of their oath usually.

Signed up Feb8, 2015 to do your work, eh? You political operative vermin are an infestation

Good call. I have little doubt that many conservative web-sites are infested with those who either disparage conservatives on certain views and make outlandish statements that the lefties use to justify their attempts at censorship of non-PC views.

Cruz is for the legalization of those already here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/13/us/cruz-tries-to-claim-the-middle-ground-on-immigration.html?pagewanted=all

Snip from the article:

What has not been as evident is what he supports: legal status for millions of people here already, while making it easier for immigrants to come here through the front door.

Obviously you didn’t read it close enough. It’s amnesty, but he refuses to call it that.

Walker campaign spokesman Tom Evenson said they were consistent with his past comments on what to do with those living here illegally. WALKER DOES NOT CONSIDER THE PENALTY LADEN PATHWAY TO LEGAL STATUS THAT HE ENDORSED IN 2013 “AMNESTY” and he’s not advocating amnesty now, he said.

I worked the campaigns of the last two presidential elections. They were not my first choice, although the pick of Sarah made the McCain campaign easier to swallow. I was under the impression anything was better than Obama. I cant tell you how hard I tried to persuade many on this website to get out and vote. I was called many names, swore at a few times and even threated to be “zotted”. I understand. I get it now. The recent house and senate races and the majority gave us all hope of healing our Country and returning to the greatness of America. And what was the first thing our elected officials do...reelect Boehner. Grrrrrr!! Given the field of recent presidential candidates and the current GOP, I think our Country would have eventually ended up where we are at today. Obama made it happen at a much faster pace. I’m done choosing the lesser of two evils. Communist or Communist Light. Throwing my vote away on a candidate who doesn’t deserve it or doesn’t care. No more.

I hear there is going to be a devastating piece, based on testimony from Walker’s kindergarten teacher, any day now...

"Walker said he would support a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants under some circumstances."

I wonder what requirements would satisfy Walker? That they be able to fog a mirror?

This guy is working for the GOP-e/NWO.

Obviously you didn’t read it close enough. [That's a bit over the top seeing as how you missed my point entirely] It’s amnesty, but he refuses to call it that.

Go back and read my post that you responded to, and read it closely and completely.

Otherwize if I was to reply in the manner you did to my post it would be like this:

You: "he’s not advocating amnesty now"

Me: Yes he is.

Re read my post, I've been explaining it like that here at FR for years.

What distinguishes Cruz from Walker on illegals?

NRO is shilling for Bush BTW.

Hey we have all been there for one time or another since 2001.
For a short time I thought Michael Steele was a smart guy.
Lots of us, myself included got over-verbose to fellow Freepers.
It was an error I hope not to make again.
Lots of good people were chased away.
Glad you were not gone forever.

Even though I only signed up recently, I’ve been reading long enough to know it’s considered polite form to ping those you are talking about.

And you are completely wrong.
I was Tea Party before there was a Tea Party.
I was in DC on 9/12/2009, were you?
I was buying and making my own signs to throw out the sitting Majority Leader before he could betray us.
Cantor’s loss stopped amnesty last year.

Or maybe you want amnesty.....

Ted Cruz has consistently been against Amnesty, unless I’m wrong on his record?
