How does this benefit those who would push such a study?

That’s the question that I always ask.

The only thing I see here is the sense of self-righteousness and superiority that they would achieve,
plus justification for controlling people and denying
“unhealthy” pleasures that some folks enjoy.

Maybe so, but eating junk food is a matter of individual choice—and liberty. War, famine, and genocide not so much.

I don't believe junk food killed more than the hundreds of millions killed by governments in the 20th century.

“making a junk food habit “more deadly than war, famine, and genocide”.

I love the way they have chosen comparisons that cannot be proven.

I’m no scientist but where are the figures comparing junk food harm to war, famine, and genocide?

So called “studies” get more ludicrous every day.

Breathing is even more dangerous than junk food. Everybody I’ve ever known who died did a lot of breathing, all their lives.

rats fed a cafeteria diet

"Cafeteria Diet" = "Junk food"?

"Cafeteria Diet" = "Michelle's school lunch program"!!!

We observed that rats fed a cafeteria diet for 2 weeks showed impaired sensory-specific satiety following consumption of a high calorie solution.

One could interpret this as a condemnation of school lunch programs. It makes a sort of intuitive sense: eating the tasteless swill served in school cafeterias leaves one feeling unsatisfied. Eventually, due to the perpetual feeling of deprivation, one forgets the pleasure of good food, and eats more and more, trying to get some satisfaction out of the food.

I do not know if studies will confirm or negate this hypothesis.

Obesity is fundamentally a problem of eating more calories than the body uses. But trying to figure out all the hormonal/neurological mechanisms that lead to that imbalance is tricky. It also does not help that many who conduct those studies want to find a simple answer to a complex problem--thus you get the idiocy of blaming sodas for obesity and so forth.

It does not help that many food purists push boring, simple foods as "healthy", and eschew anything tasty--not so bad if they personally want to eat that boring stuff, but horrendous if they want to force others to eat the same flavorless diet (e.g. Michelle Obama and her drive to make school lunches even more disgusting than they already were).

The people who complain about what people like me eat are on the same side as the government, who is trying to take away all my choices, reducing me to slavery to whatever they choose that is supposedly "good for me".

I've had it. If I want to eat "junk food", I will. If I want to own an AR-15 and shoot M855 ammo, I will. Sick to death of being told what to do by people who think they are better than me.

"the School of Medical Sciences at Australia’s University of New South Wales"

Is that Australia's version of the Center for Science in the Public Interest? In other words, a bunch of vegan nutjobs bent on destroying every meat, egg and dairy business?

Give examples of junk food and examples of good food. This always confuses me. I don’t eat out, or snack, but who knows if what I’m eating is genociding me as I dysfunctionally think about it?
