A new HIV strain in some patients in Cuba appears to be much more aggressive and can develop into AIDS within three years of infection. Researchers said the progression happens so fast that treatment with antiretroviral drugs may come too late.
Without treatment, HIV infection usually takes 5 to 10 years to turn into AIDS, according to Anne-Mieke Vandamme, a medical professor at Belgium's University of Leuvan. According to the study, published in the journal EBioMedicine, Vandamme was alerted to the new aggressive strain of HIV by Cuban health officials who wanted to find out what was happening.

Interesting. The Castro regime has a long standing policy to lock up anyone testing positive for HIV.
One would think that would limit the spread, and therefore opportunity, for mutations.

In Cuba? Maybe their “containment” doesn’t work so well? From what I have heard they round up all the HIV positive people and put them in a camp (kind of like Gitmo) to live out the rest of their days. Maybe, since they are all doomed it is kind of an orgy there and this is a mixture of various strains?
Does Obongo know of this?IWhen he finds out,he’ll (undoubtedly)send”Chartered Airplanes”to begin importation procedures.After all,it just isn’t FAIR that Cuba has this(and we don’t).Obongo will be remembered(for many unmentionable things),but certainly as”The Arbiter of What’s Fair”????

Well not from me.
My standard response to threads like these is to repeat my 25 year old prediction that there will never, ever be a cure for HIV since it doesn't cause AIDS. AIDS victim-hood is primarily achieved by the victim's extensive use of drugs and/or their extensive participation in homosexual activities.

You just know that Cuba will be a go to sex tourism destination for all orientations.
The policy is more likely to result in Cuban homosexuals avoiding doctors and circumstances where they might be required to get tested.
I'm not surprised by this variant. As HIV spreads through the population, it will mutate.
