President Obama has repeatedly said that U.S. troops would not be sent into harm

300 Marines are a “light” Marine Battalion, as Marine Companies peak out at 225, but their Battalions can be as large as 1300.
This being said, US military bases in war zones are extraordinarily dangerous to approach. During the Second Gulf War occupation, US bases had kill zones of about 5 miles surrounding them, and killed a huge number of Iraqis and others attempting to penetrate their perimeter. Most of the time, the kill zones were cleaned after such an event, thus the trap was reset for the next infiltrators.
In this case, though the Marines occupy only a small part of the base, even if the rest of the base fell, it would take 10 or 20 times the numbers of attackers to even dislodge the Marines. And they would be experiencing brutal Close Air Support while trying to do so.
And the Marines will not be cut off from resupply, and could likely get all sorts of weapons, including artillery and mortars, armored vehicles, helicopters, lots of UAVs to observe enemy movements as well as satellite and aircraft intelligence.
The bottom line is that ISIS would have to be brain dead to take on a battalion of USMC.
You’re right. Thought of him , then forgot to post his name. LBJ.
Inept micro-managers all.
If 0bama doesn’t do anything and we lose those people the outrage in the US will be ......
> Then America will be all set for Iraq War III.
It’s not in Iraq where the bombs need to be delivered.
It’s Mecca and Medina.
For all the ribbons on his chest, he impresses me as a classic REMF.
The reason for ALL those ribbons on his chest is because he IS a classic REMF!!!!!!
the Spartans didn’t have Apaches and Hogs. They did however have a traitor in their midst.
I understand more medals of valor to those engaged in combat, but it seems to me that awards have inflated greatly over the past 30 years. As long as you don't get relieved, a battalion commander can expect a Legion of Merit at the end of his command.
“But what would happen if Islamic State militants were to directly attack a military base housing several hundred American troops?”
A large Islamic funeral.
What if Field Marshall Barry von Obama hasn’t permitted the training cadre to have ammunition, or arms for that matter?
I like another poster’s reference to Thermopile’s siege.
nah, the Marines are not pedophiles.
Well, JFK had experience sinking PT boats, chasing island chicks and drinking coconut liquor.
Jimmy was sort of a peanut-brained USNA grad who knew something about nuclear powered submarines, but little else.
Clinton was a draft dodger and ZerO fell out of his high chair and wouldn't make a good Campfire Girl.
“What if Field Marshall Barry von Obama hasnt permitted the training cadre to have ammunition, or arms for that matter?”
I expect that some general would take matters in hand.
they sent in the 8 suicide bombers then 16 in a second wave. All dead. They went in the front gate but the Marines are about 1.5 miles away. In Afghanistan they were able to keep their weapons on them at all times after all the green on blue crud.
Thanks for the link....looks more realistic.
Always better to wait until the dust settles, I guess. The second wave wasn’t reported till 24 hours later. Also the DOD did say that daesh robs banks to fund their missions...
” ISIL Steals to Survive
Its important to keep the events in Anbar in perspective, Kirby said. The list released earlier this week by U.S. Central Command of destroyed ISIL equipment and vehicles is significant given ISILs limited ability to reconstitute their supplies.
It’s not like they’ve got, you know, a ready supply chain of armored personnel carriers just streaming across, and, you know, manufacturing capability to replace this stuff, the admiral said. It’s not like they’ve got a team full of mechanics that can keep them running after they’ve been hit and broken.
Kirby added, These guys steal to survive. I mean, one of their chief sources of income is stolen money. They just move into an area and basically rob banks. And that’s how they get a lot of their money. And when they’re not capturing new territory, they’re not robbing a whole lot of new banks.
So there’s a shelf life here on their material capability, he continued. They do not have the ability to reconstitute strength the way a normal armed force would.”

I used google earth last night and have seen photos from DVIDS of the base. The Iraqis did good.
ISIS probably has no idea that they are contemplating skinny dipping in a pool full of pissed off honey badgers.
just read this...looks like a little payback
