Obese People Could Have Benefits Taken Away If They Refuse Treatment David Cameron says taxpayers should no longer “fund the benefits” of obese people or drug and alcohol addicts who refuse to accept the treatment that could help them get back into employment

By Peter Dominiczak, 13 Feb 2015 Obese people could have their benefits stripped if they refuse treatment in a bid to ensure they can lead a “fulfilling life”, David Cameron has said.

A Conservative government will attempt to ensure that tens of thousands of people who claim welfare on the grounds of obesity, drug or alcohol addiction are “incentivised” to go back to work, the Prime Minister said. Mr Cameron said that taxpayers should no longer “fund the benefits” of people who refuse to accept the treatment that could help them get back into employement.

He has asked Professor Dame Carol Black, a senior Government adviser of health, to conduct a review into how best to get people with treatable conditions back into work. The review will focus on how to incentivise the people to get back to work and consider whether their benefits should be stopped if they refuse treatment.

Treatment for morbid obesity (except bariatric surgery) is less than 10% successful. It’s a waste of money at the cost of personal freedom. Addiction treatment in general, has a very low success rate.

“Addiction treatment in general, has a very low success rate.”

Allot depends on the recovery center and the duration of treatment. Origins Recovery Centers have about a 30% success rate, they run 30 to 90 day programs depending on the individual. The biggest cause of failure lies in the individual being treated, many are forced into recovery and that is rarely successful.

Honestly, though, if I wouldn’t be thrilled to have to pay to support people who won’t work because they eat too much, drink too much alcohol, or take too many drugs.

It’s their personal choice, so let them pay for it.

When someone willing enslaves themselves to the government, it should be a surprise that government is going to exert control over you. It’s what masters do.

I remember when judges started sentencing people to attend A.A. meetings. A complete waste of everybody's time.

You can’t force anybody to do something and be successful. I went through an AA designed recovery program and went from 2 gallons of whisky a week to zero. I will give them all the credit for pulling that one off, I couldn’t do it by myself. The kicker was I went to them on my own, nobody wanted to quit drinking more than I did. That’s the key you have to want to quit!
