San Gabriel Valley, 5 miles due East of downtown L.A.
I got out of that mess 25 years ago. In Monterey Park,
in the Asian fish markets, you club your own fresh fish to death!

Just don’t eat the brain I guess. I dissected a racoon in Zoology (ironically at the time I was a vegetarian and the only one not getting queasy) and there ain’t much meat on them.

Hmm. At $10/lb I could earn a new car in a week just around my neighborhood. The article says that they’ve sold them in the past, it’s just that some woman got the heebie-jeebies because “it’s so real”. As long as they aren’t poisoning the racoons or only shooting the sick ones, who cares? Sell ‘em!

I recall a video on youtube of some old, poor guy in Detroit, talking about how poor he and everyone else was. And all the while all of these dogs are barking out in back and I’m thinking “well get rid of some of your dogs to cut down on the bills”.

He walks out into the back yard with his four dogs and then explains how they are his coon-hunting dogs. Right in town! (So much empty space now) He trees and kills raccoons and sells them for $5 a piece. And his dogs eat them too.

He cooks them up as well and eats them, sells them.

At the end he was playing a pretty good blue’s guitar and singing. He might have been poor, but I think he had things figured pretty well.

Roast it, strip the meat from the bones mix in BBQ sauce and bake it. Same recipe for beavers and any other creature your not sure how to cook. I believe an Arkansas law stated that you had to leave a hind foot on a racoon if it was offered for sale, didn’t want someone substituting cats.

A coon is more like a rabbit. Roasted with chicken broth is really good.

I’ve never seen them sold for food not skinned, I’ve seen them dressed and laid out on ice, with a foot left on.
