MSNBC Panel Conducts Suspicious, Hostile Grilling Of Small Business Owner Over Minimum Wage
Truth Revolt ^ | 2/5/2015 | Caleb Howe

News broke this week about a popular independent bookstore in San Francisco that is going out of business thanks to a citywide minimum wage hike that priced the owner out of business. Effectively, the minimum wage for this store's employees was "raised" to zero, as they are losing their jobs.

On Thursday morning, the store's owner Alan Beatts appeared on Morning Joe on MSNBC to discuss his decision to close and how the wage hike negatively impacted his business. The panel was, to say the least, skeptical.

The interview began with a hostile inquiry from Mika Brzezinski and only got worse from there, as Harold Ford and Mike Barnicle piled on, grilling the business owner with obvious disdain. It was abundantly clear throughout that only Joe Scarborough had even the slightest inclination to believe Beatts' understanding of, and honesty about, his own business. It was especially apparent when Mika simply flat-out said that the guy was not being straight.

Dear inane reporters; the margin for book stores is extremely easy to find out. Book stores in California selling new goods are forbidden from charging more than the cover price without a huge amount of notification to the consumer that they are paying more than suggested retail, and even then, they can still turn around and sue the business owner.

Raising costs means less margin. Less margin means less profit. With book stores, the profit is already razor thin, and raising costs on them simply eliminates the profit. Bye bye jobs.

I know, simple economics is so HARD to understand...

If Mika Brzezinski’s father wasn’t who he is, she’d be pole dancing on the day shift in a third rate t***y bar in Grand Forks or Hemet.

Liberals think companies should be in business to provide jobs and that making a profit is obscene.

The fact the store is closing but, not the market isn’t something you can pretend away.

The guy has no control over pricing of books and mags.

He does have control over pricing on food and will keep that business a going concern so long as.....wait for it.......

“So long as it is profitable”.

Without profit you cannot keep the doors open.

It’s mathematically not possible.

Neither video works. I even tried to open in Youtube. They go all haywire and then snow with an ‘error occurred” message.

Liberals cannot believe that wages affect a business’s ability to be solvent. Wages have no relationship to costs. Store owners can pay the help anything they choose. Liberals simply cannot understand any relationship of costs and prices or that wages are prices. And profit is unseemly, anyway, just greed.

Yeah, I saw the interview. Mika is less smart about economics than I am - and that’s saying a lot.

Of course, being a bookstore junkie, I know that part of the problem is the obnoxious behavior of independent bookstore owners and employees. This guy was typical!

The guy on the right has some kind of long stain down the inside of his pant leg and that guy on the far left is really creepy – especially when his Adam's Apple jumps around when he gets excited!

Not sure I would call that a hostile grilling, but someone needed to say it is not just the minimum wage increase but the years of economic pain in taxes and other wealth redistribution schemes. Business can only take so much abuse.

Nobody says the truth:

If the CUSTOMERS were willing to pay the minimum wage then the owner would be glad to.
They aren’t and therefore he can’t.

But that wouldn’t make the viewers feel good.
