NBC News’ Brian Williams was not, as he has previously claimed, aboard a U.S. Air Force helicopter that was hit by two rockets and grounded during the 2003 Iraq invasion.
In what was surely a moment of vindication for those who were actually aboard the grounded aircraft, the Nightly News anchor admitted Wednesday that the harrowing story he and NBC had been perpetuating since 2003 was false.
“I would not have chosen to make this mistake,” Williams told the military publication Stars and Stripes, Wednesday. “I don’t know what screwed up in my mind that caused me to conflate one aircraft with another.”

A mistake is when you say or do something that you truly believe to be right and it turns out to be wrong. That’s understandable and provides an opportunity to learn from the mistake. When you say or do something that you know is wrong that’s dishonesty. And that’s inexcusable.

Brian “Mr. New Canaan” Williams is a genetic cross between a sideshow barker and a late night TV used car salesman. He intones the evening news with a solemnity born of the fear that if he doesn’t do what he’s told, he might quickly become a very grave man.
Same sh!t that conflates in his mind every time he gives a “news” report, injecting all of his personal, liberal slant. Same sh!t that conflates all of his “reporting” to always approach the stories from the “doom and gloom” viewpoint.
I actually try to watch Brian Williams’ broadcast most nights, just to see what many of the LIVs are receiving as “factual” representations of what is going on in the world.
He has always been a bland-looking egotist. And now everyone knows.
Gee, I just drove to work. Was I in a terrible car accident on the 405?? Hm. Well, was I? I think some people were killed, and there were fire engines, and the jaws of life had to be used, and traffic was tied up for hours... Or, no? Maybe that didn’t just happen? My memory about the 9/11 lie was that Chelsea was “jogging around the World Trade Center” during...er, 9/11. Of course, you never could actually jog around that complex but Hillary isn’t known for her New York geographic smarts.

I’m wondering if someone has seen a list where Williams has all reported this falsehood. I suspect that he did not lie in the original reporting of it back in 2003 but we do know that when he was interviewed on Letterman (which was much more recently) he went on at length about it. Has he actually been relaying this false story all along even before the Letterman interview i.e. where it’s actually documented?
