Scott Walker Leads GOP Race In Latest Iowa Poll

A year out from the Iowa caucuses, potential presidential candidate and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has taken the lead among Republicans, an Iowa Poll published Saturday indicates. With 15 percent support, Walker leads a number of other potential candidates for the Republican ticket, including Rand Paul, Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee and Jeb Bush, the Des Moines Register reported.

Walker is the No. 2 candidate among potential caucus attendees who support an establishment candidate as well as those who prefer one who is anti-establishment, the Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics Iowa poll indicated.

Following close behind, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky came in with 14 percent. And 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney, who bowed out of the race before the poll was released, held 13 percent. "After putting considerable thought into making another run for president, I’ve decided it is best to give other leaders in the party the opportunity to become our next nominee," Romney said Friday.

Without Romney in the race, the candidates below him picked up a few more points, including Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and Fox News host, who picked up 3 percent.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also picked up a couple of points, bringing him to a tie with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

While Walker is still behind at the national level, the presidential hopeful has been making gains, holding 11 percent, according to Public Policy Polling. It’s the first time he’s registered at double digits, the firm said.

What nonsense reporting this is. To leave Cruz out when it was obvious that Cruz was the star in Iowa is deliberate manipulation.

The left wants Cruz marginalized.

Won’t work.

...”The left wants Cruz marginalized....Won’t work”...

I tend to think Cruz will step up and be seen and heard when he chooses to do so....he’s being careful to time things. It’s known the earlier you step up the media will knock you out. Rommey’s out....more will follow.

Cruz doesn’t need to step out there now...I like his style and how he’s working this....he’ll do fine no matter what IMO.

I agree, Sen. Cruz is a viable conservative candidate, what he lacks in executive experience he makes up for in intelligence and common sense.

But it's still to early for me to back any candidate; I'm going to wait and watch and choose wisely.

...Scott Walker....”if there is a way to set up a process so that you ‘enable’ people to come in’.... and have a legal ‘pathway’ to do that, that’s something ‘we’ve got to embrace’”....

How do you like his choice of leftist words.....?????

Cruz stepped up and out in Iowa and he won the crowds over to him big time.

Cruz is not afraid to step up. It’s the leftist press that’s afraid to report his stepping up. They don’t want to give any press because no matter how they write it he’s able to get his message across and make them look bad for trying to smear him. That’s what Reagan did so well.

Walker is good but the poll is just about meaningless at this point. The lead is with 15%, way too early. They react to each person who speaks out there.

I'd stand with Scott Walker. He's a good candidate. He isn't Ted Cruz, but he's a lot closer than any of the “establishment” candidates. He's good.

Heck, he stood up to the organized crime syndicate known as Unions!

Walker in 2015 reminds me of Paul Ryan in 2012. So many posters here on FR were swooning all over him and we kept telling them he’s a RINO/dingbat and they refused to believe it.

Now they know better.

Polls at this point don’t mean SH-———————————t

Yep. It's also why none of us needs to get worked up into a lather during the vetting process. All of the candidates' true positions and records on the issues will unfold as the months roll on.

I'm already seeing firefights breaking out around here, and no one's even declared yet.

I hate to harsh your buzz. Gov. Walker backs citizenship pathway for illegal immigrants

Harsh it, brother. Some folks around here need a strong dose of tough love.

...”It’s the leftist press that’s afraid to report his stepping up.”...

No it’s not ‘they’re afraid’....the press isn’t afraid to do what they want, make no mistake about that. They do not bend to any but who rule them.

Cruz can handle this his own way...after all he’s been moving about throughout Congress effectively...I suspect he can handle the media in his own good time...and that..how to get himself center stage.

That's the best course, in any event.

But there is one additional consideration that I would submit for your check list: a will of steel.

Turning this country -- and its federal government -- around will require a will of steel. The Democrats, their media lapdogs, the Republican establishment will all fight the implementation of conservativism tooth and nail.

Whomever we elect has got to be somebody who can stand up to the storm and see it through. In classic terms, we need an ideologue, not a pragmatist.

Walker does NOT support amnesty.

True, but he does support a 'pathway to citizenship', which in my book is pretty much the same thing.

For my money, Walker just doesn't get that we don't need ANY immigration at this point. In fact, there ought to be a twenty-five year moratorium on ALL immigration, in order to allow the millions already here to assimilate into our culture, instead of multiculturizing into miniature foreign countries. Like they're doing right now.

Not to mention the fact that there are over 90 Million able-bodied Americans out of work. I ask you - what logical and beneficial purpose can there possibly be for admitting even more foreigners to America at this time?

Sorry, but Walker's off base on his immigration position.

I admit I’m with Cruz....but if I wasn’t I would not be for Walker. I’d likely even vote for Trump over Walker! LoL....seriously.
